General Guidelines for Collaborative Science Project

In Grades 7 and 8, students are introduced to various subjects, which sometimes start
appearing as standalone concepts to them and the parents. It is our endeavour to emphasise
and help students understand that no subject can be studied in isolation and any and every
topic considered has more than one aspect and involves different subjects.

At this stage we are helping students see the inter-connectedness of the Sciences and get the
students to appreciate and understand the importance of keeping the scientific principles at
the core of learning even while employing a transdisciplinary approach.

Students in Grade 7 and 8 have been divided into groups of 5 to 8 students based on various
parameters and have been briefed about a project to be done on a theme of their choice. At
the core of this is the fact that, they have to do research on the theme chosen and relate it to
the four branches of Science and Technology they are currently studying.

Namely:

1) Biology
2) Chemistry
3) Computer Science
4) Physics

The timeline for this is as listed below:

17th October Theme approved by the teacher responsible for the Group

17th to 27th October Students do independent research

30th October First Draft of Presentation shown by the group to the teacher

1st Week of November Presentation Finalised in consultation with the teacher

2nd Week of November Final Presentation.

Please note that the details of the Final presentation will be shared with you closer to time.

Certain points to be considered by the students are listed below:

1. The work has to be collaborative by nature

2. The work has to be Trans-Disciplinary
3. The principles of Science should not be compromised
4. There should be independent research involved to gather information, which has to be
verified and validated by diligent research and validation of source from which
information is taken.
5. There has to be a bibliography and citing as an acknowledgement of sources.
6. Mode of Presentation will be any suitable method other than a model.
7. This project will contribute towards a FA Test worth 50 marks.

The students will be graded on the criteria mentioned below:

a) Team Connection
b) Team Process
c) Project Outcomes
d) Timeline observed
e) Nature of Science explored and Inter-disciplinary approach used.
