School Counseling Program Mission Statement

The St. Damian School Counseling Department strives to create an inclusive, safe and
supportive learning environment for all students. We believe that all students have the ability
to achieve, become successful members of the catholic community and prosper throughout
their academic life. Through data-driven initiatives our program provides students with the
personal, social, academic, and college/career preparation needed. Our program offers the
following services: individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, classroom guidance,
and academic support. The Counseling Department is committed to creating a collaborative
learning environment by working with administration, staff, parents, community members to
enhance our students development.

School Counseling Program Goals


The school counseling program will focus on the following achievement, attendance and/or behavior goals this year.
Details of activities promoting these goals are found in the curriculum, small-group and closing-the-gap action plans.

Program Goal Statements


1 Academic: We want students to have rigorous academic goals and achievement to help
prepare them for high school entrance exams. We wants students to be able to create and
follow through with healthy time and work management goals.

2 College/Career: We want students to be aware of the services their school counselor can
offer in terms of exploring and planning for college and career plans. We want students to
be exposed to all of the different options that exist for them after high school, as well as
what they can do to begin preparing today.

3 Personal/Social: We want students to be familiar with ways of reducing stress and anxiety.
We want students to be comfortable discussing and resolving conflicts.

I plan to spend the following percentage of my time delivering the components of the school counseling program.

Advisory Council
The school counseling advisory council will meet on the following dates.

Every third Thursday of the month. Beginning Aug. 17 - May 17. If the third Thursday happens
to fall during a break or institution day, it will be rescheduled to the last Thursday of the month.

The school counseling office will be open for students/parents/teachers from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm .
My hours will be from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm (if flexible scheduling is used).

The career center will be open from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm
