to the 1930s era, where you will be greeted by street life and the Malaya culture. The dinner concept is a mixture
of the more globally known Hollywood glamour of the 1920/30s which influenced the Shanghai Jazz scene and the
vintage glitz of colonial Malaysia.
Come unwind, relax and network, and sample the sumptuous dishes on offer.

Our industry has provided affordable energy to the developed world for more than 100 years and has been instrumental
in fuelling economic growth for many societies. However, we are now challenged to broaden accessibility to affordable
energy in emerging markets and to bring more difficult hydrocarbons to existing markets. Recently we have seen many
innovations in technology and business practices that help us develop unconventional resources, deep-water fields and
make the most of conventional green and brown-field areas. To continue to make projects more affordable, commercial
and technological creativity must be nurtured with strong leadership and a collaborative philosophy which recognises
that when organisations, spanning resource holders, operators, technology and service providers, work in partnership,
our industry delivers more safely, quickly and efficiently.

Innovation in Collaboration
As an industry we are facing one of the toughest challenges in our history, how do we meet the needs of an exploding
global population in a sustainable way. There are many different players at local, national and international levels
who have a real stake in this game but who push for different and sometimes conflicting agendas. This is why
collaboration is vital. But not just collaboration around technology but also in how we work, and how we work
together. Innovative collaboration in the establishment of policies, regulations and relationships will be vital if we are
to develop a sustainable energy future that will provide clean, affordable energy for future generations.

Panel Sessions
Panel Session 1:
Are We Delivering Fit for Purpose Oil & Gas Field Developments?
Thursday, 11 December 1400-1530 hours Plenary Theatre, Level 3
In common with all fields of engineering, there are numerous valid and reasonable solutions to the way in which oil and
gas facilities and wells are constructed and ultimately placed on production. However, optimization of the approach
has to be compromised because available equipment may have been designed to work across a broad spectrum of
applications and not the specifics of the project being executed.
For example, market forces can result in a rig being used for a well construction project which does not require its full
capacity. Realistically, a lean and fit for purpose set of tools, systems, models and capabilities should allow us to deliver
suitably engineered field developments at the most economic cost. In this panel we will discuss recent advances in the
implementation of lean engineering approaches to field developments, the challenges, successes and future directions.

How to Deliver HSSE and Operational Excellence?
Thursday, 11 December 1600-1730 hours Plenary Theatre, Level 3
Oil and gas operations are becoming more complex as the industry moves into new greenfield frontiers for example,
ultra deep water, the Arctic, HPHT fields, etc. At the same time, brownfield operations are also becoming more complex
require intense reservoir management, and often, the implementation of enhanced oil recovery processes. Also, in
brown fields, ageing facilities require extra attention with regards to operational integrity and process safety.
A common goal exists across operations throughout the world, regards to safe and reliable operations should be a top
priority. Achieving such a goal requires visible and committed leadership, with the necessary safety culture built through
workforce engagement and leaders walking the talk. Continuous improvement is achieved by sharing experiences
and learnings, and collaborating across the industry, as all players have a common desire and incentive to raise safety,
environmental and operational standards across the board.
Recent incidents such as Macondo, has demonstrated that the industry can no longer operate in a vacuum, that it
needs to work in partnership with the authorities and legislators, advocating for regulations which make good business
sense for all stakeholders. These, increasingly, also include the public at large, who has a growing stake in business
conducted within their communities, especially in environmentally sensitive areas or issues which are of concern to all.
This panel will address the various issues and barriers impacting the HSSE and operational performance in the oil and
gas industry, as well as discuss potential actions and solutions in order to achieve world class HSSE and operational
performance across all parts of the E&P business in various parts of the world. The pros and cons and merits of
potentially adopting a common HSSE standard across the industry will also be discussed.

Panel Session 3:
Whats so Unconventional about Unconventional Oil & Gas?
Friday, 12 December 1100-1230 hours Plenary Theatre, Level 3
With the expected increase in demand for energy the oil and gas industry faces significant challenges in meeting these
demands. While new basins are being developed, notably East Africa, the Mediterranean, and the sub-salt plays of
Brazil, most of the conventional hydrocarbon basins are well along the creaming curve with new discoveries becoming
smaller and deeper and more expensive to develop. It is also recognised that most E&P companies are struggling to
meet their reserve replacement targets. These issues combined with increasing rig costs, means the economics of
bringing any new discovery onto production is increasingly challenged.
The surge in production in the US from unconventional resources has demonstrated that alternatives to the conventional
plays do exist. However, is this model really appropriate for export, especially to the Asia Pacific region? With the
increasing public back-lash against hydraulic fracturing seen in Europe, are unconventional resources really the solution?
The E&P industry has been through much more difficult times, $10/bbl oil in the late 1980s, and the recent Macondo
incident are but two. It is not the challenges we face but how we turn those to opportunities that has made this the
industry what it is today. The issues for both the conventional and unconventional resources should not be trivialised
but where some see challenges others see opportunities. What do we need to make Unconventionals of today
Conventional, ASAP?

Panel Session 4:
Collaboration, Outsourcing or Building Internal Capabilities?
Lessons Learnt!
Friday, 12 December 1430-1600 hours Plenary Theatre, Level 3
This panel session aims to draw out influencing factors, across all scales and types of business, and examine a
framework within which our decisions to collaborate, outsource or build internally can be placed. It is hoped that
apparently conflicting drivers can be balanced and win-win scenarios identified enabling growth and efficiency within
business and political arenas.
Our industry is adept at finding solutions to technical and business challenges and regularly, at some level, we make
decisions to collaborate, outsource or use internal capability to achieve our objectives. However, significant shifts in
economic circumstances, the ever present issue of decreasing resources and the availability of appropriately skilled
people warrant a review of how we decide to collaborate, outsource or build internally.
As with many aspects of our industry, there is no simple rule to apply - one approach is not always better than the others.
A myriad of competing factors influence our decisions often made on a case-by-case basis rather than within a clearly
defined corporate strategy or policy.

Special Session
With access to material onshore and near shore gas reserves diminishing the industry has been looking for technological
solutions to commercialise gas fields offshore, too far to be transported to shore for liquefaction. Both medium and small
scale versions of a floating LNG schemes are currently being built and the respective companies involved will speak
about their experience to-date.
The concept of Gas to Liquids (GTL) (70-120 kbbl/d) has now been implemented and proven commercially successful.
New opportunities are being sought to develop the next generation of GTL plants. In order to widen the opportunity set,
research has established that smaller scale GTL plants (17 kbbl/d) can also be commercially viable. With its potential
to serve domestic markets with liquid fuels and/or other specialty products, mini-GTL offers an alternative monetization
route for gas reserves, attractive to both host governments and small independent operators.
Meanwhile LNGs contribution to the gas market is expected to grow from 240 mtpa today to 400+ mtpa by 2025. As
a result of macro-economic imperatives, security of supply concerns and public sentiment regarding environmental
sustainability, the dynamics driving demand growth vary significantly from region to region, and country to country.
The ability to timely develop and enact sound energy policies will determine whether a country or region can secure a
responsible energy future.
A distinguished panel of experts will cover the spectrum of gas policies and relevant gas technologies essential to further
tap the potential of natural gas. Focus areas are, for example, the importance of gas for domestic utilization, GTL and
mini-GTL technology, and the monetization of offshore stranded gas using medium and small-scale FLNG technology.
