2014-2015 SPRING SEMESTER

AE 334 PROPULSION SYSTEMS I

HOMEWORK 2

Due: 16 March 2015

1. An ideal non-afterburning turbojet is running steadily on a static test stand. The compressor
pressure ratio is 15.6 and the turbine pressure (stagnation) ratio is 0.444. Assuming that the
maximum temperature of the cycle is 1250C, f=0.03, =1.4, R=287 J/kgK, Cp=1004.5 J/kgK
and Pe=Pa, calculate the specific thrust and the thrust specific fuel consumption of the engine.

2. An ideal non-afterburning turbojet engine flies with M=0.8 at ambient conditions where
Ta=216.6 K and a=0.3119 kg/m3. If the propulsive efficiency is 0.4 find the approximate
compressor pressure ratio of this engine. The turbine inlet (Tt4) and engine exit (Tt7) stagnation
temperatures are 1700 K and 1360 K, respectively. Assume Pe=Pa, Cp=1.005 kJ/kgK and =1.4.
