SEMESTER 2, SESSION 2016/17

GROUP ASSIGNMENT


INSTRUCTIONS:

In a group of 5, choose ONE topic of experiential entrepreneurial learning and carry out
entrepreneurial business/projects/activities based on the chosen topic. Each group must
abide the following guidelines:
i. Each group need to set up its own structure including the leader, secretary and
positions of all members.
ii. The projects/activities have to be approved by the supervisor/lecturer
iii. The groups need to abide by the guideline for each project/activity
iv. The groups have to provide their own materials, equipment and other necessities
for their business projects/activities
v. The groups are not allowed to sublet their projects/activities to other parties. They
however can get any advices from other parties
vi. The groups need to submit final reports of the projects/activities according to any
format given by the supervisors.
vii. The final report must be submitted to the lecturer/supervisor during the final
presentation in Week 14.

OPTION 1: ENTREPRENEURIAL EXPLORATION PROJECT

Scope:
This project/activity aims to provide student a better understanding of the theoretical
foundations of entrepreneurship and personally experience what it takes to become
an entrepreneur by developing and implementing a simple business idea.
This project/activity emphasis on the (pre-) launch stage of new business.

Project deliverables
The group need to choose one viable business idea (products or services)
For products, they can choose and sell either through online or offline. The products
can be their own products or products that are available in the market.
For the service business, they can choose simple services that can be done in the
university or any area close to the university.
The group independently need to gain some income by selling products or services
throughout the module from week 7 to week 12.
The group need to document all activities related to the project/activity.
They need to write and present a final report using the given format which will cover
all activity that they have done.


OPTION 2: ENTREPRENEURIAL IMMERSION THROUGH CASE STUDY

Scope
This project/activity aims to expose students to a real business through case study
method
Throughout the process, they will learn about entrepreneurial venture, running a
sustainable business including challenges and achievements
This real examples will help students gain deeper understanding of sustainable
business entrepreneurship and how it can be put in place.

Project deliverables
In this project/activity, the groups have to choose any two successful Small and
Medium companies (SMEs) in Malaysia.
The group need to collect as much as possible information about the companies (such
as background of the companies, product, marketing, business, performance and
others).
The information can be collected through document reviews, personal interviews with
the owners, observation, etc.
They need to analyse the companies (comparative analyses) using SWOT analysis and
Business Model Canvas (BMC) and propose any relevant business intervention to
enhance the performance of the companies.
They need to write and present a final report using the given format.



OPTION 3: ENTREPRENEURHSIP CARNIVAL/EXPO/SMALL BUSINESS PROJECT

Scope
In this project, the emphasis is given on the startup stage of a simple business.
Students will get better understanding of the theoretical foundations of
entrepreneurship and personally experience what it takes to become an entrepreneur
by developing and running a simple business idea.

Project deliverables
The university will organize entrepreneurship carnival/expo that will involve all groups
of students. The carnival/expo can be held in or outside of the university.
The university is also free to decide the length of carnival/expo and it is advised that
the length should be between 2-5 days.
The group need to choose one viable business idea (products or services)
All groups are required to sell their products or services during the entrepreneurship
carnival/expo
All groups are required to plan their projects/activities independently, including
selecting the products, operations and marketing strategy.
It is advisable the carnival/expo to be done in week 11 to week 13.
They need to write a final report using a given format.


OPTION 4: SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROJECT

Scope
Social entrepreneurship combine innovation, entrepreneurship and social purpose
and seek to be financially sustainable by generating revenue from trading.
This project aims to develop knowledge, appreciate of the role of social entrepreneurs
that create social change, deepen students understanding of the world around them.
Students will gain knowledge and creating solutions to address economic problems,
learn how to develop creative solutions to address social problems. And empower to
see social entrepreneurship as a force for social change.

Project deliverables
The group need to find one community nearby the university. The community can be
a village or associations.
They have to choose and run at least one project/activity that will contribute to the
income generating for the community.
The selection of the project/activity must be based on the needs of the community
and agreed by both parties (community and students).
The groups need to plan and organize the project/activity independently within the
semester.
It is advisable the project/activity to be done in week 10 to week 12.
If the project/activities involve other groups, all groups need to coordinate all matters
related to the project/activity.
The project must be reported based on the format guidelines.
OPTION 5: EVENT MANAGEMENT

Scope
Event management project/activity is the application of entrepreneurship process to
the creation and generate income from events such as festivals, conferences,
ceremonies, formal parties, concerts and training.
The project aims to expose students to relate overall entrepreneurial theory(s) and
processes to see potential business from event management projects/activities.
Events can deliver beneficial impacts and outcomes both for the students and the host
community.

Project deliverables
In this project, the group needs to choose and run at least one commercial events.
Before running the event, the group have to prepare a proposal that covers financial
analysis of the events (break even analysis). This is to ensure the project is viable and
the group will generate income from the events.
The event can be done in or outside the university, involving various group of
participants.
The groups need to plan and organize the event independently within the semester.
It is advisable to the event to be done in week 10 to week 12.
They need to write and present a final report using the given format.
