CORE VACCINATION SCHEDULE

RECOMMENDATION: ANNUAL RECOMMENDATION: 2 DOSES
Booster 4-6 weeks after primary dose;
annual revaccination

Booster at time of penetrating injury, or prior to surgery, if last dose was


administered more than 6 months previously.

RECOMMENDATION: ANNUAL RECOMMENDATION: 2 DOSES
SPRING; prior to the onset of vector season Booster 4-6 weeks after primary dose;
revaccinate prior to onset of next
vector season

Consider 6-month revaccination interval for horses residing in endemic areas

Revaccinate annually

While the incidence of rabies in horses is low, the disease is invariably fatal and has
considerable public health significance. This is why it is a recommended core vaccine.
