The 5th Wave

By: Rick Yancey

Book Report by: Ashten Schmitt

Cassie- She is outgoing and

adventurous, but when an alien, (aka
Other) comes her way, she can turn
into a killer real quick. But since
Others look exactly like humans, it can
be hard to tell. Which is why she lost
her mother and she went away to a
refugee camp that she nicknamed
Camp Ashpit, where her brother was
put on a bus and taken to another
camp called Camp Haven.Her father
was murdered by an Army
Commander named Colonel Vosch.
Sam- He is Cassies younger brother
that wants the others to go away and
find a different planet and wants all
the waves to stop. Like Cassie, hes
spent too much time in the company
of Death and wishes that his Mom and
Dad could still be alive. What he
doesnt realize is that Cassie kept his
promise and is trying to figure out a
way to rescue him. He also made a
new friend that turns out to be
Cassies crush in school.

Evan Walker- He is not human, he is not Other,

he is not both, and he is not neither. He is no-
one but himself. When he finds Cassie in the
woods, he instantly falls in love with her and
decides not to kill her, but keep her safe. Sadly,
she finds out that he is not who she thought he
was and runs away until he finds her again and
comforts her.

Ben Parish- He is not only Sams

best friend, he is also Cassies
crush from school. At Camp
Haven, his nickname is Private
Zombie because the camp is not
just any camp, its a camp where
children are taught to fight in
combat. Unlike Cassie and Sam,
he lost his entire family on the
night his sister was taken by
the Others. He even has a
girlfriend at the camp named
Ringer who is the new leader of
their squad.
Beginning- Cassie has lost her family
and her friends but still has her
brother,Sam.

Middle- Cassie is shot at by Evan and

he takes her to his old farmhouse in
the woods to care for her while at
Camp Haven, Zombie is being cared
for.

End- Cassie goes back to rescue Sam

from Camp Haven with Evans and
Zombies help.

Setting- The settings in the book are:

the woods, Camp Ashpit, Camp
Haven, and Evans farmhouse. These
locations affect the mood of the story
by making it more exciting for the
reader. If the story took place
somewhere else, then the story would
lose the excitement and not make any
sense.
