Information on ABAQUS Student Edition Last updated: 12/18/2013 HK

ABAQUS Student Edition is available for free to students. The Student Edition has a 1,000 node limit but
is otherwise full featured. This software appears to only available for Windows OS.

Comments on installation:

- Read the Installation Instructions PDF file first. There is info there to help you find out whether
your operating system (OS) is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Obtain the installation file that pertains to whether your computers OS is 32-bit or 64-bit. If
you have 32-bit OS, you will need to get Abaqus Version 6.12 or 6.11. Version 6.13 only
supports 64-bit OS. Any version is sufficient and capable for purposes of this course.
- After downloading the large install file (1.6 to 1.9 GB), be sure to follow the Installation
Instructions, including temporarily disabling your Antivirus software.
- During installation, make note of the working directory for where ABAQUS jobs files will run.
This by default will be C:\Temp. It is suggested to keep the default.
- During the product self-verification test of the installation, if you encounter problems with
ABAQUS CAE not being able to run (this is the graphical-user-interface application for pre- and
post-processing your models), it is likely due to a graphics acceleration issue. To resolve, place
the file abaqus_v6.env into the working directory. This is C:\Temp by default, or whatever
you defined it to be during installation. The abaqus_v6.env file can be obtained from the SE233
course website. Note: this is simply a text file you can open it with notepade.exe to view.

The 20,000 node limit Education Edition version of ABAQUS will be installed in select ACMS computer
labs.
