Hayakawa Typing Manual

Setting up Japanese IME for Windows


1. Start -> Control Panel -> Region and Language -> Keyboard and Languages -> Change Keyboard

2. In the General section go to "Installed Services" , Click "Add" and select "Japanese".

3. Select the Microsoft IME under the Japanese Language bar and select "Properties". When the
pop-up opens, select "General" and check if the input method is "Romaji".

Special Cases
Hiragana follows a tradition in which the following three particles are written a special way:

'o' when used as a particle is typed as not

'e' when used as a particle is typed as not

'wa' when used as a particle is typed as not
