ARTIST STATEMENT
What is an artist statement?

A general introduction to your work, a body of work, or a specific project.

Your artist statement is about facts, a basic introduction to your art; it's not instructions
on what to experience, what to think, how to feel, how to act, or where to stand, and if it
is, you better do a rewrite. Please answer the questions below & then compose your
artist statement in paragraph form. The artist statement should be 3-5 paragraphs
including 3-5 sentences each.

1. Why do you make art? What inspires you?

I would say nature because I do enjoy using some organic lines but cities also
inspire me because of the lines and how everything is even.

2. How did you choose your logo idea? What was your thought process on your
designs?

I chose my idea from the television show Project Runway; I always loved the
sketches that the designers would use to help them with their designs. My thought
process was to do a huge extravagant dress which I believe I executed well.

3. What does your logo and trademark mean to you?

I really love fashion and designs with clothing so my logo represents that. It
represents my taste of clothing and how I love the color black and I love a deep
red.

4. Explain your symbolism. What does each part signify &/or represent?

The model represents my love for fashion and the use of line, I used lines to create
a nice clean cut outline and I used them throughout my entire design.

5. What is unique/special about your logo and trademark?

The trademark represents equality which is why there is an = sign in it. I believe
that everyone should live equally and everyone should have equal opportunities,
6. What tool/technique did you like the best that you used to create your logo?

I used the line tool for the majority of my design and the other tools I used were
the shape tool to create the head and the hat. The other tool I used was the paint
brush tool, I used the tool with the shoulders and I used to it for the color bones.

7. What was the most challenging part about creating a logo from scratch?

I would say having the entire little lines match up, it was very difficult to have
every little lines match up evenly. The other challenging part was getting started
because I was very overwhelmed.

8. How does your logo connect to your TM?

Both my logo and my line have very straight lines and both of have a really strict
form. I also used the color black in both of my designs. Both my logo and my
trademark are very structured and tough.

9. Were you able to transform your idea into a graphic? Or did your plan change?

My original plan was to have my trademark as my logo, so I had to create a new

logo. I am very happy how it turned out because I believe my logo is really
interesting.

10. How did you incorporate detail into your design?

I have detail in the dress, all of the little lines and I used that design up through the
top. In the box hat I have some lining detail in there and the last place where there
is detail if with the color bones.

11. How did you incorporate color into your graphic?

I have color in the lining of the dress and in the top; I also have some color in the
hat that I created. I decided to use red because of the boldness it had and I knew
that it would stand out.

12. How did you include value changes and contrast?

I had value in my trade ark by having the flare tool to create some brightness in it,
and I also have value in it on the left side I used the gradient tool. For my logo I
used value by having different line thickness in the dress and in the top.

13. What is the most successful part of your logo/trademark?

I would say for my logo all of the use of line and how I had very solid strict lines but
I also have some fluid lines with the shoulders and with the head. For my
trademark I loved how I used the flare tool, I believe it added some interesting
change of color.

14. What needs some work?

I would say my line thickness I used some different variations but I could have used
some more. In the dress I should have used some thicker lines because I only used
different lines in the top half.

Artist Statement

My inspiration was to create my own sketch of a model and I got this idea from the television show
Project Runway. My trademark and my logo relate to each other because both of them have the color black
and both of them have structured lines to create the form. My trademark is a symbol for equality, in my
trademark there is an = sign which represents equality.
I incorporated value by having different line thickness in my logo; the top has thicker lines than the
dress does. In the trademark there is value by having the gradient tool on the left had side, and I also used the
flare tool to create different dimensions in my design. The tools I used were the line tool which I used in the
dress and in the top of my logo. I used the shape tool to create the box hat and for the head, I also used the
shape tool in the outline of my trademark.
Overall I believe my logo and my trademark turned out very well. I spent a lot of time on each of them
and I added small details to both of them to have more of an impact. Both my logo and my trademark have a
meaning to me and both of them were created very well. I spent my time on each of them and I didnt rush
either. I planned out both of them so I would know what I wanted to do.
