Miocene Kaliwangu Formation
Miocene Kaliwangu Formation
Bogor Basin is the back-arc basin of the Oligo-Miocene volcanic which is in the south. Research
located in Kaliwangu formation, precisely in the Sagalaherang area, Subang regency, West Java.
Based on geological map sheet Arjawinangun from old to young consist of: Cinambo Formation,
Limestone Complex Kromong, Halang Formation, Subang Formation, Kaliwangu Kaliwangu,
Citalang Formation, Breccia folded, Oldest Volcanic, Youngest Volcanic, and Alluvium.
Kaliwangu formation is the formation of the Middle Pliocene age to Upper Pliocene. Lithology
of the formation are coral limestone, sandstone, tuffaceous sandstones, tuffaceous mudstone,
conglomerate, and encountered lenses coherent calcareous sandstones. The purpose of this study
is to provide a description of Kaliwangu Formation of the facies as a hydrocarbon reservoir
potential. The research methods used by geological field observation, outcrop sampling and
laboratory analysis consist of petrographic and microfossil analysis. The results of geological
field observation found oil seeps was located in sandstone Kaliwangu Formation and found
shells of molluscs and foraminifera in outcrop. With many fossil molluscs in the outcrop also the
discovery of sedimentary structures in the form of wavy laminated, to became identifier that
these formations deposited in shallow marine depositional environment until the transition.
From laboratory analysis as microfossil found Molluscs, Elphidium spp, Hastigerina sp, and
Pulleniatina sp as an identifier of a shallow neritic outside until the transition. From petrographic
analysis showed the good permeability and porosity from carbonates sandstones as the
hydrocarbon reservoir potential. From the analysis of these data, lithology Formation sandstones
karbonatan Kaliwangu with an identifier hydrocarbon zones that can be developed as a
hydrocarbon exploration targets.
