Angles in Shapes

Common Core Standard:

CC.2.3.4.A.1 Draw lines and angles and identify these in two-

dimensional figures.

Objective:

Students will apply their knowledge of angles to apply to the

environment around them.
Materials:

Various materials collected from home

Various materials collected from the classroom setting
Angle Identification Chart
Crayons
Angles worksheet with shapes
Geoboard
Rubber Bands

Motivation:

We will review the types of angles we learned about the day before
o What is an Acute angle?
o What is an Obtuse angle?
o What is a Right angle?
Instruction:
I will show students a geoboard
Ask:
o Have ever seen one and what might its purpose be?
Explain that a geoboard is used to create different types of lines and
shapes.
I will show students how to use a Geoboard by making a simple right
triangle.
o What type of angle does this create?
o Use our right angle template to analyze the angle
We will use the geoboard to make various shapes to identify different
angles
o Acute
o Obtuse
o Right
I will then hand out geoboards and allow student to take 2 minutes to
play around with the board and get an idea of how to use it.
Students will be asked to make an angle that I present to them using
the geo boards.
After this, I will collect the geoboards
I will show student various objects and pictures I have found
Student will be given a small table with all the materials listed.
Students will have to identify which angle each makes.
Guided Practice:
We will complete the first object in the table as a group.
We will use the geoboard to create one angle on the selected object.

Individual Practice:

Students will look at the different objects and write what type of angle
they represent.
Students will use the geoboard to create the representation of the
angle and fill in the chart.
After completing the chart, we will review answers for the chart.
Assessment:
Students will be given shown the label of an angle and have to use the
geoboard to show how to construct that visualized angle.
