Fate, Love, and Death

In All the Wrong Places

December 3rd, 2015

Fate, Love, and Death
In All the Wrong Places

This production sponsored in part by Michael and

Michaele Fienen.

Thank you both for making this experience possible.

Director's Note

I was first introduced to this show in a

General Literature class, about three and a

half years ago. I fell in love with the show

and had hopes that I could direct it one day.

I like the concept of having a kind of reset

button, something that can give you an opportunity to do a do-

over for those embarrassing and awkward moments. The

characters get so many chances to start again and do things

differently that they can and do fall into other awkward moments,

or find themselves in a lying to each other.

-Eric Davis

"My original connection to this play

was that of the ideal relationship.

Being a woman, we are told our

whole lives we are to be married,

and live happily ever after. Linda has

engulfed herself in this idealism of

the perfect relationship which

she calls their magic tower. In this drama, Lindas obsession of this

model grows, and the tower starts to crack and crumble. I believe

this show will be relatable to many in that we have all tried too

hard for something only to have it result in failure. I was very

pleased by my casts abilities to be subtle and realistic, adding

layers to Tennessee Williams poetic writing and creating a

beautiful production. A special thanks to Mimi Little and Pittsburg

Community theatre for their generosity as well as Dr. Allan and

the rest of the Pittsburg State Communications faculty for guiding

us on journeys like these.

What an incredible journey this has

been! From the moment I started the

COMM 544 class, I have been counting

down to this day. Its been quite the

learning experience, and thank you to Dr.

Allan, my classmates, and my actors for making it such a positive

one! I couldnt have asked for a better cast and I look forward to

seeing them bring the show to life! Made for a Woman explores

the unfortunate truth that outside appearances are not

everything, and how a young woman is shattered by this

revelation. Again, I would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Allan,

my classmates, and my cast for this wonderful opportunity. I

would also like to thank the rest of the Pittsburg State University

theatre faculty and the Pittsburg community for the endless

wisdom and support. All of you rock!

What a ride it has been,
spending the time with this
cast has been one amazing
experience after another.
Even with limited time they
have been able to capture
the concepts I was trying to bring across to them, and seeing that
come to life is amazing. This opportunity given through Comm 544
is something I have been looking forward to for years, and the
excitement continues to build. I have learned so much about the
actual process from the other side. Heights by Amy Fox, explores
the complexities of relational communication to both others and
the self. It explores the need for honesty towards others and the
self to find happiness. A show that seeks to find the truth, even if
it has to reveal itself at 2:30 a.m. on a rooftop. Thank you for the
opportunity to share this work. A Special Thanks to Rashid M. Bey
for the photography, the faculty and staff of Pittsburg State
University, the supportive community of Pittsburg, and the cast
for taking the time to work on this production so hard.

"Death is something we will all face. If not

yet directly, you still have felt its graze.

People lose those closest to them every

day. Grief is an inevitable process. I wrote

this play to show the different ways people

cope with this common experience. Death isnt a subject that is

often brought up at the dinner table or in a casual conversation.

The mere mention of the word sends people scurrying for the

nearest exit. It is one of the most important and the hardest

discussions we will ever have, that of ones own mortality. The

avoidance of this subject makes grief even more insufferable.

When you factor in other family members, it gets even

more messy. Funerals can lead to tears, bad jokes, outbursts, and

severe awkwardness. Underneath it all, there is an importance to

this madness. Through it all, these dysfunctional people can help

you heal. "
