A1 Message Board Activity

Unit 2 All about me


What is the question?
Total time needed: 1520 minutes

Activity outline
1. This activity follows Students Book lesson 2C.
2. The activity is completed synchronously, so you will need to set a date and time
when all students are available for the online chat in the Message Board.

Language point
This activity will allow students to practice using numbers and asking for personal
information about phone numbers / names and address in real time.

The activity step by step


Step 1: Set up (in class) 5 minutes

1. Tell students the time and date of the activity.


2. If you think you need to provide additional support, provide students with
the Key language above.
3. Explain that they will need to write the question to an answer. Demonstrate
on the board if necessary, e.g. write Its Petronsky. and elicit what the
question might be (Whats your surname?).

Step 2: Do the activity (online) 78 minutes

1. Go to the class Message Board. Copy and paste the following into the chat
box at the agreed time:

Message 1: Its Petronsky.


Reply 1: Whats your surname?

2. Demonstrate with another example if necessary.


3. Write the first answer to start the task, e.g. repeat Its Petronsky. or a new
example 07786 543210. Encourage a student to write the answer, e.g.
Whats your surname? or Whats your phone number?.
4. Make sure that the student then adds a new answer for the other students
to guess.
5. Allow students to continue asking and answering.
6. After about 7-8 minutes, if all students have contributed, change the
activity.
7. Write a question and ask a student to respond (e.g. T: Whats your name? S:
Its Jose.). Encourage students to practise the normal Q-A format.
Step 3: Wrap up the activity (in class) 5 minutes
Thank the class for participating.
Give one or two highlights of the session.
Give positive feedback as well as feedback on language errors (keep this
focused on the language point).
