Version No. 1.01
Prerequisite MEE215 Kinematics of Machinery
Objectives:
1. To understand the concepts of turning moment diagrams, flywheel design
and the dynamics of reciprocating engines.
2. To understand the balancing procedures for rotating and reciprocating masses,
rotors and engines.
3. To understand the fundamentals of free and forced vibrations.
4. To understand the mechanisms for control
Expected Outcome:
Student will be able to;
1. Demonstrate an understanding of turning moment diagrams in various
applications.
2. Demonstrate skills to design flywheel for an IC engine and punching press with the
consideration of geometrical and economical constraints.
3. Perform static and dynamic balancing of high speed rotary and reciprocating
machines.
4. Analyze free and forced vibrations of machines, engines and structures.
5. Calculate gyroscopic couple on various vehicles and apply concept of governors.
