THE ROG CENTRE VIEW FROM THE OPPOSITE RIVERBANK

# BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT
THE ROG FACTORY REPRESENTS ONE OF THE LAST PRESERVED QUALITY
EXAMPLES OF OLD INDUSTRIAL ARCHITECTURE, AND AT THE SAME TIME,
A DEGRADED POST-INDUSTRIAL BUILDING OF 8,000 M2, IN THE CENTRE
OF LJUBLJANA. THE ROG FACTORY IS THE PROPERTY OF THE CITY OF
LJUBLJANA.
In 2007, the City of Ljubljana focused intensely on the project of revitalising the whole area of the former
Rog Factory and renovating the factory into a Rog Centre production space dedicated to architecture,
design and visual arts.
The Rog Factory is situated in the Eastern
In 2010, the City of Ljubljana joined Second Chance, a European project that, in Ljubljana, focused on part of the city center within inner traffic
developing the content and management concept of the new Rog Centre. An important tool that developed circle.
in the frame of the Second Chance project was the RogLab production space a small-scale prototype
of the future Rog Centre where programmes, management models and partnerships for the future Rog
Centre are being tested through different hands-on situations.

An important aim of the renovation is the revitalisation of the Eastern part of the city centre, which is
anticipated to grow into an important development axis of the city centre and its opening alongside the
Ljubljanica River. The City of Ljubljana plans to revitalise this part of the city, giving it a new boost with
creative programmes. Furthermore, the geographical location of Ljubljana at the crossroads of Central
and South East Europe makes the Rog Centre a natural hub for regional creative sectors.

The Rog Centre is a Part of Official Municipal Strategies
