Silk is a thin but strong fiber that silkworms produce when they are

making their cocoons. It can be woven into a very soft and smooth
fabric.

Silk is a poor conductor of electricity. Silk is resistant to most


mineral acids, except for sulphuric acid, which dissolves it.

Silk's attractive lustre and drape makes it suitable for many


furnishing applications. It is used for wall coverings, rugs,
bedding and wall hangings.
