A. PRELIMINARY COMPOSITION

1. Water content (W)

- The water quantities will be corrected, according to the following cases:

- 10% reduction for aggregates 063 mm;

- 5% reduction for aggregates 032 mm;

- 1020% reduction when using additives;

- 10% extra when crushed stones are used

- 20% extra for aggregates 08 mm;

- 10% extra for aggregates 016 mm;

- 5% extra for aggregates 022 mm;

1. Water quantity

From Table S-W -> select the initial quantity of water: W = .. l/m3

Appy corrections based on the type of aggregates and aditives (W +/-): W = l/m3

2. Water / cement ratio

From Table F1.1. F1.2. -> W/C = ..

3. Determine the quantity of cement

= = .

4. Establish the quantitiy of entraped air (uneliminated due to compaction)

P = 2% -> P = 20 dm3/m3

5. Establishing the quantity aggregates

Based on the selected granulometric graph, the quantity of aggregates is calculated for each interval
of diametres (0-4, 4-8, 8-16, 16-22, 16-32, 32-63 mm)

B. LABORATORY COMPOSITION

Assume that by applying the preliminary compostion, the design workability is not obtained. Thus,
additional quantities of water are added until the required workability class is obtained.

W* = .. (imposed value)

W/C ratio is constants, thus the corrected quantity of cement is calculated:

= = .

The percentage of entraped air is constant, P = 2% -> P = 20 dm3/m3

Thus,

, = (1000 )

Each quantity of aggregates is recalculated:

C. WORKING (FINAL) COMPOSITION

When the final composition of the concrete is designed, the natural humidity of the aggregates, due
to environmental actions, must be evaluated and taken into accout.

Thus, 2% humidity is imposed for the sand (Us), and 1% for the gravel (Ug).

Based on the quantites of aggregates calculated for the laboratory mix, the corresponding quantity
of water is calculated:
