IIIT-Hyd Launches Co-Innovation Models'
Hyderabad: In a bid to extend its deep tech research and domain expertise in the industry, the International
Institute of Information Technology, (IIIT-Hyderabad) announced the launch of co-innovation models of
engagement with industry, bringing deep technology knowledge in research labs to come to bear on real world
problems that industry is solving.
Prof Vasudeva Varma, Dean R&D said, The conventional model of engagement with industry was primarily
commissioned research. Very small class of industry problems fitted this mode as there could not be any
dependencies on companies systems, data, or domain knowledge. These joint innovation models open a whole
new range of problems that can now jointly be addressed.
There are two models whereby industries can associate with the institute and leverage its research and domain
knowledge.Under theTwo-Way Co-innovation Model, industries will be able to engage with IIIT-Hyderabads
research centres through joint efforts in evolving research problems or existing ones that require deep-tech
knowledge and technology inputs. They can also explore emerging tech areas through pilot projects conducted at
IIIT-Hyderabads research centres by setting up their innovation labs at the institute, and gain access to IIIT-
Hyderabads research insights, deep tech design and implementation assistance.
Commenting on this novel initiative, Ramesh Loganathan, Professor of Practise, Co-innovations said, Today, the
research in labs stay within its walls, and real world problems within companies. Through IIIT-Hyderabads co-
innovation model, we are confident of addressing these challenges and creating deeper engagements between
the institutes work and the industry.(NSS)
