Main purpose:
The Foundation's main purpose is to contribute to the well-being, the personal valuation and integration of
children and young people who, for many reasons, are hospitalized for an extended period of time in hospital
units, prison and many more.
Since it was created, the foundation has kept its focus in social areas, that the State and the other foundations
don't pay much attention to. It can help children when they get back to school, after spending some time away,
in making friends and getting back to their normal life.
Projects:
The foundation has two main projects: Casa do Gil and Apoio ao Domiclio.
Casa do Gil was created in 2006 and is the only center of temporary reception with post-hospital care. It
accepts children between the ages of zero and twelve, that have just left the hospital for some reason, and
that are at clinical and/or social risk.
The children require an individual accompaniment and a multidisciplinary approach to the clinical level, both emotional
and social.
The team is composed by nurses, social workers, childhood educators and therapists.

Apoio ao Domiclio.
Created in 2006, the project UMAD Unidades Mveis de Apoio ao Domiclio, supports children with chronic
disease and their families, allowing their return home, after hospitalization, and helping them return to what their life
used to be. This initiative supports the reintegration of these children in their environments of origin, since taking the
medical cares to their house helps with the reintegration into the outside world and their school life.
The UMAD works with Portuguese hospitals and their intervention covers several districts in Portugal. This project is
already known in several countries since it is one of the best.
