Objective: to pratice speaking skills
Procedures:
- ask the learners to read out their reports on facts about sights in USA
- discuss what they have found most interesting

DEVELOPMENT
2.1.. STAGE 1: Numbers Estimated time: 4 minutes
Objective: to revise primary numbers

Procedures:
- tell the learners that today we are going to revise numbers
- write 'NUMBERS' on the blackboard
- tell the students to open their workbook on page 89
- tell them we will do tasks B and C on together on the blackboard
- when the class encounters two examples of decimal numbers in the task, say that we
will not be answering this part now, but to keep it in mind for soon after
- ask the learners to write the answers on the blackboard
- tell them to copy the answers in their notebooks

2.2. STAGE 2: Percentages Estimated time: 4 minutes


Objective: to introduce new grammar item
Procedures:
- ask the learners to recall the numbers with points from the previous task
- tell them that these are decimal numbers which are used when talking about
percentages
- write 'PERCENTAGES %' on the blackboard
- explain how to pronounce numbers before and after the decimal point on a couple of
examples
- write down some more examples on the blackboard and ask the student to read them
out loud

2.3. STAGE 3: Fractions Estimated time: 6 minutes


Objective: to introduce fractions
Procedures:
- tell the students that there is one more type of numbers we will look at today
- write 'FRACTIONS' on the blackboard
- write down examples on blackboard
- explain that creating fractions requires the usage of ordinal and cardinal numbers
- explain that some fractions are exceptions e.g. half, quarter
- write some more examples on the blackboard and ask the students to read them out
loud

2.4. STAGE 4: Exercise in textbook Estimated time: 4 minutes


Objective: to improve speaking skills

- tell the students to open their textbooks on page 110


-tell the student they should fill out the blanks with the missing information
-ask volunteers to read out the fact file
- tell the learners they should make a fact file about Croatia for homework (with 'regions'
instead of 'states')

2.5. STAGE 5: Revision quiz Estimated time: 13 minutes


Objectives: to revise facts about the USA
to practice numbers, fractions and percentages
Procedures:
- tell the learners they will do a quiz
- explain they will see a PowerPoint presentation and that they should write down their
answers according to the teacher's instructions
- open up the PowerPoint presentation
- show a picture of Lady Liberty and ask them to write down the missing information
- show them a series of statements and tell them to note whether they are true or false
- show a series of numbers, percentages or fractions and ask them to write down how
they are written in words
- after finishing, tell them they will now see the correct answers and that they should
check them
- show the answer key on the PowerPoint presentation
- ask if there is anyone who answered all of the questions correctly
- discuss whether they found the quiz to be difficult, which task was the hardest etc.
