Business and Economic Development Internship Position Description 2017 03
D.C. Councilmember, Chair Pro Tempore and Chair of the Committee on Business and
Economic Development Kenyan R. McDuffie (D-Ward 5) is currently seeking a part time
business and economic development intern.
Duties include:
Conducting background research on industries, businesses, stakeholders and other
organizations
Preparing reports on the economic status/climate of various business demographics
within the District
Researching, synthesizing information and assisting with information management on
existing and potential projects, programs and various initiatives throughout the District
Assisting with drafting letters and briefings
Drafting external communications for emails, newsletters, reports and social media
platforms
Performing clerical tasks such as coordination of meetings, filing, answering phones,
greeting and escorting visitors
Qualifications:
This internship is ideal for undergraduate and graduate students (currently enrolled or
recently graduated) seeking careers in city planning/management, policy and politics, economic
and community development, urban development or real estate.
Strong interpersonal, verbal (in person and phone) and written communication skills
Excellent research skills
Well organize and efficient with accuracy and an eye for detail
Flexible and keen to learn new skills
Compensation:
Unpaid; College credit is highly encouraged and available upon school approval
