Context
The IF cable connects the IF interface of the RCMUA board of the NR8120A/8120D to the
IF interface of an ODU.
Note:
In an area with frequent thunder and lightning, you are recommended to install a lightning
arrester on the IDU IF interface. One end of the IF jumper should be connected to the IDU
IF interface and the other end should be connected to one end of the lightning arrester.
The other end of the lightning arrester should be connected to the IF cable.
5-6
After an IF cable is made, installation personnel must test the IF cable. Figure 5-8 illustrates
the test procedure.
5-7
Note:
The IF cable connector connected to the IF interface of the RCMUA board is a bending
connector. The making method of the bending connector is the same as that of the straight
connector.
5-8
Caution!
l The maximum IF cable (5D-FB types) length between IDU and ODU is 150 meters
(RG-8U IF cable is 300 meters, The RG-8U is recommended for 2048 QAM and upper
modulation).
l To protect the N-type connector, installation personnel can only use hands or torque
spanners to fasten the N-type connector. The N-type connector can be a straight
connector or a bending connector.
l To protect the IF cable's N-type connectors and the ODU's IF interface, it is prohibited
to use the IF cable's N-type connectors or the ODU's IF interface as a fulcrum when
routing or bending the IF cable.
Steps
1. In accordance with the designed distance between the IDU and an ODU, cut the IF
cable with a margin from three meters to five meters.
2. Make the connectors of the IF cable. After the connectors are made, take appropriate
protection measures to protect the connectors from being damaged during the hoisting
or routing process.
3. Paste temporary labels at the two ends of the IF cable.
4. Route the IF cable.
a. Route the IF cable vertically along a metal tower or a cable tray, and bind it every
1.0 m to 1.5 m.

Context
l If the antenna is installed on a metal tower, the down-lead of the grounding clip must
be routed downwards along the metal tower.
l If the antenna is installed on the roof of a building, the down-lead of the grounding clip
must be routed towards the lightning protection net on the building roof.
l The following describes the antenna grounding requirements:
If the antenna is installed on the metal tower, the IF cable should be grounded at
a point about 1-2 m below the ODU, and then be grounded at a point 1.5 m before
the bent part where the cable is routed downwards along the tower. Before the
IF cable is led into the equipment room, the cable must also be grounded at a
grounding point.
If the IF cable is shorter than 20 m, it must be grounded at the first two grounding
points, as mentioned above.
If the IF cable is longer than 20 m but shorter than 60 m, it must be grounded at
the three grounding points, as mentioned above.
Steps
1. Select a proper position to install the grounding clip, and cut the IF cable sheath
in accordance with the grounding clip size. Figure 5-14 shows the structure of the
grounding clip.
Caution!
The outer conductor of the IF cable must be well grounded where the grounding clip
is installed.
After the grounding clip is installed, the outer corrugated conductor of the IF cable
must be sealed completely, without water leakage or air leakage.
5-13
2. Route the down-lead of the grounding clip connected by the IF cable towards the
grounding network, and verify that the included angle between the grounding cable
and the IF cable must be not more than 15.
3. Waterproof and seal the connection part between the grounding clip and the IF cable
in "1+3+3" mode, which involves one layer of PVC insulating tape, three layers of
waterproof cement, and three layers of insulating tape.

Caution!
If the power supply of an IDU device is incorrectly grounded, the power supply will be burnt.
You must follow the method described in this manual to verify that the power supply of an
IDU device is properly grounded.
A-1
Note:
In Figure A-1, the IDU device is used as an example. Your actual device may be different.
Prerequisites
Before checking IDU power supply grounding, verify the following:
l The IDU device is installed completely.
l The IDU cabinet is grounded properly.
l The IDU device is connected to the power supply properly.
l The air circuit breaker of the power supply cable is in off state.
A-2
Steps
Perform the following steps to determine whether the IDU device power supply is properly
grounded.
1. Check whether the multimeter operates properly.
Use the red and black probes to form a short circuit to check whether the multimeter
operates properly. If a resistance of 0 ohms is displayed, it indicates that the multimeter
operates properly. Otherwise, check or replace the multimeter.
2. Check the resistance between the IDU device power cable and the Protective Earth
(PE).
Use a probe of the multimeter to touch point 1 in the power cable core corresponding to
the 48V GND of the IDU power supply board. Use the other probe to touch the shared
grounding busbar of the cabinet where the IDU device is located. If a resistance of
less than 10 ohms is displayed, it indicates that the power supply is grounded properly.
Otherwise, check the grounding connection.
3. Check the resistance between the power cable core of the IDU device and the PE.
Use a probe of the multimeter to touch point 2 in the power cable core corresponding
to the 48V of the IDU power supply board. Use the other probe to touch the shared
grounding busbar of the cabinet where the IDU device is located. If a resistance of over
1000 ohms is displayed, it indicates that the power supply core is grounded properly.
Otherwise, check the 48V and 48V GND cable connections. One cable cannot be
connected to the terminal of another cable.
Context
