Diesel Hydrodesulfurization (DHDS) / Hydrotreating (DHDT) Technology

leadership in developing, adopting
and assimilating state-of-the-art

advantage, IndianOil-R&D initiated
a systematic program to build up
knowledge base in hydroprocessing
technology.
With this expertise, Indian Oil R&D
has become leader in providing
technical services to the refineries in
the key areas of process optimization,
troubleshooting and performance
monitoring.
IndianOil-R&D in association with
EIL (Engineers India Limited)
developed its proprietary Diesel
Hydrodesulfurization(DHDS)/
Hydrotreating (DHDT) technology.
Process Description
InDieselhydrodesulfurization/
hydrotreating process, diesel feed is
mixed with recycle Hydrogen over a
catalyst bed in a trickle bed reactor at
temperature of 290-400C and
pressure of 35-125 bar.
The main chemical reactions in
DHDS/DHDTare
hydrodesulphurization(HDS),
hydrodenitrification (HDN), and
aromatic and olefin saturation. These
reactions are carried on bi-functional
catalysts.
Reactor effluent is separated into gas
and liquid in a separator. Gas is
recycled back to the reactor after
amine wash along with make-up
Hydrogen and liquid is sent to the
stripper for removal of light gases
and H2S.
Commercialization
Grass root unit of 1.2 MMTPA
DHDT is commissioned at IOC-BGR
in Aug, 2011 for producing diesel
meeting BS-IV norms (Sulfur < 50
ppm and Cetane number of more than
51).
