Decarburization

FromWikipedia,thefreeencyclopedia

Decarburization(ordecarbonization)istheprocessoppositetocarburization,namelythereductionofcarbon
content.

Thetermistypicallyusedinmetallurgy,describingthereductionofthecontentofcarboninmetals(usually
steel).Decarburizationoccurswhenthemetalisheatedtotemperaturesof700Corabovewhencarboninthe
metalreactswithgasescontainingoxygenorhydrogen.[1]Theremovalofcarbonremoveshardcarbidephases
