Senator [Kendrick Meek]'s long and distinguished record of public service to the citizens of South
Florida and to the State of Florida is impressive. He was first elected to the Florida House of
Representatives in 1994 and subsequently elected to the Florida Senate in 1998.

Meek heads Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation

On Tuesday, November 20, the Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation, the State's largest with 27
members elected State Senator Kendrick Meek (D) as Chair for the 2001-2002 term.

Senator Meek's long and distinguished record of public service to the citizens of South Florida and to the
State of Florida is impressive. He was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1994 and
subsequently elected to the Florida Senate in 1998. As a member of the State Senate, Meek currently
serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Consumer Services and is a
member of the Senate's Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and Judiciary, Children and
Families Committee, Commerce and Economic Opportunities Committee., Criminal justice Committee,
Reapportionment Subcommittee on Legislative Apportionment and the Redistricting Committee and the
Select Committee on Public Safety and Crisis Management.

Senator Meek stated, "As the largest in the state, our Delegation is also the most ethnically and
politically diverse. I look forward to working with all of our members in a bi-partisan effort for the
betterment of MiamiDade County and the State of Florida."

Freshman legislator, State Representative Rene Garcia (R) was elected Vice-Chair for the 2001-2002
term. Representative Garcia currently serves on several House Committees including, Child & Family
Security Committee, Education Innovation Committee, Utilities & Telecommunications Committee,
Health & Human Services Appropriations Committee, Senate Redistricting Committee.
