Earth, Moon, and Sun

1. Rotation: Earth spinning on its axis

2. Revolution: the movement of one object around another object

3. Phases: the changes in the sunlit area of one celestial body as seen by another
celestial body

4. Axis: the imaginary line that passes through the Earths center and the north and
south poles

5. Eclipse: an event in which the shadow of one celestial body falls on another

6. Solar Eclipse: when the moon comes between the Earth and the sun and the
shadow of the moon falls on part of the Earth

7. Lunar Eclipse: when the Earth comes between the sun and the moon and the
shadow of the Earth falls on part of the moon

8. Asteroid: a small, rocky object that orbits the sun

9. Meteor: a bright streak of light that results when a meteoroid burns up in the
Earths atmosphere

10. Comet: a small body of ice, rock, and cosmic dust that follows an elliptical orbit
around the sun giving off gas and dust in the form of a tail

11. Satellite: a natural or artificial body that revolves around a planet

12. Space Probe: an unscrewed vehicle that carries scientific instruments into space
to collect scientific data

13. Hubble Telescope: a telescope launched into orbit around the Earth in 1990 to
provide information about the universe
