Student Name: Amanpreet Jassal Course Code: ECS 4070 Age Group: Toddlers Date: March 2, 2017 Learning Experience: Enhance Pretend Play Programming Purpose: During placement, I observed the children and noticed that during free play the children always visit the kitchen. One day the ECE in the room brought new materials (a bowl, a cup) and all the children seemed so interested and excited to have new items. Therefore, this activity will incorporate 20 new materials into the dramatic centre/kitchen for children to play with. Objective: Children will enhance social interest (1.1) as they offer one another toys. One of the toddlers favorite thing to do is to offer each other plates with food on it (Teacher Aman, I made you food). Children will strengthen social skills in perspective taking (1.2) as he/she attempts to imitate someone in the kitchen. Children will enhance cognition in sorting (4.9) as they match items by function (ex. spoon with bowl). Materials: 4 plates 4 cups 4 forks 4 spoons 4 butter knifes Opening (Introduction): Place the materials in the dramatic centre during free play Body (Content) 1. Once the children have gotten a chance to explore and play with the materials set the materials on the table (like the picture) 2. Talk about the different colours and foods (I need a fork for my pasta and a cup for my milk) 3. Challenge the children (Can you please pass me the red cup) 4. Acknowledge appropriate behaviors (Look, Child A is feeding the teddy bear) Closing (Ending): Today we learned what a fork, spoon, and knife do. We also learned our colors and sorted them according to their colour. We made lunch; I wonder whats for lunch today! Any guesses? Transition: Who is hungry and ready to eat?
