1. (ST) Briefly describe your teaching successes and difficulties for this period.
One thing | leamed about was the importance of smooth transitions and leaving zero time for becoming
unfocused. Each part of your lesson should smoothly transition into the next to have very minimal
downtime. Another important lesson I leamed is how much the teacher must supplement the method
bbook used in class. There are many cases in which Essential Elements can be altered to help the
student learn a concept quicker. In #106. March Militaire, EE splits a difficult phrase into two separate
lines. | rewrote it to connect that phrase so it has 12 measures on the first line and 8 measures on the
second line with rehearsal letters every 2 bars. | noticed that many students forget certain fingerings
and what accidentals are so | included reminders in the #106 study. Students also learn rhythms faster

‘we wrote out a unison study of "My Country Tis’ of Thee" and the students quickly recognized it and.
easily played that rhythm in other songs. To teach an eighth note followed by a dotted quarter, we
2. (MT) Deseribe the ST's performance for this period in terms of strengths and areas that need
improvement.
‘Samantha continues to exhibit professionalism, flexibility, and organization. Her classroom
management skills were already strong, yet have continued to improve even more. She has
‘demonstrated the abilty to focus the students as they begin their lesson. Sammy is aware of her
students’ needs throughout the class and paces her delivery of information to meet those needs.
‘Samantha's next area of improvement would be to anticipate a troublesome spot in the music before
the students play it and isolate that section for repetitive practice before playing large sections of the
music.
3. (MT) Recommendations and/or instructions for the next two weeks.
‘Samantha should continue to and expand on breaking difficult parts of the music into smaller sections.
{or repetitive practice. Also, she should slow tempos down when difficult or new music is being
rehearsed,
We are very impressed with Samantha's teaching abilities and we are sad to see her time with us
coming to an end.
