Interfaces Prior to any work related to programming, coding, individualization or retrofit, select the right interface to avoid programming and/or coding aborts. The following table shows the vehicle interface which must be used for programming and/or coding: E Series Vehicle Interface Diagnostic Head OPPS/OPS (*) 8 Series E31 x E65, E66 x 7 Series E38 x E32 6 Series E63, E64 x E60, E61 x 5 Series E39 x E34 E90, E91, x E92, E93 3 Series Eas x E36 x x E70, E71 x Es3 x x3 E83 x zB Es2 x a Ess x (7) The OPSIOPPS allows parallel programming, meaning that MOST control modules can be programmed at the same time as CAN control modules. To ensure parallel programming, the OPS/OPPS head must be connected in this order: 1. DK LAN cable (3) 2. MOST bus connector using cable (4) P/N 663 121 (83 30 0 494 332) 3. The vehicle diagnostic connector us ing the short OBD cable (2) P/N 663 111 (83 30 0 494 339) General Rules for Programming 14.05.2008 BMW Group SI 8090501 - General Rules for Programming Page 2 of 3 1. TO ENSURE UNINTERRUPTED PROGRAMMING, DO NOT USE WIRELESS CONNECTIONS TO THE NETWORK. ALLWAYS E CABLE CONNECTIONS. 2. THE LONG VERSION OBD CABLE MUST NOT BE USED FOR PROGRAMMING — RAMMING COULD ABORT IF THIS CABLE IS USED. 3. THE DK LAN CABLE MUST NOT BE GUIDED THROUGH ANY OPEN WINDOW OF THE VEHICLE. IT MIGHT BE DAMAGED DURING AUTOMATIC WINDOWS. INITIALIZATION. Il. Vehicle preparation This section describes the preparation procedure for the vehicle, which has to be followed prior to any programming or coding. * Park the vehicle where it is not in the way (programming may take up to 4 hours). + Windshield wipers must be unobstructed (they might be activated during programming). * All stored FM and AM stations must be noted. * All electrical consumers must be off. * Engine must be off and cooled down (trans oil < 85°C), + E65 and E66: The fuel tank has to be filled up or the fuse “F73" in the fuse box in the trunk has to be disconnected (programming of vehicles with less fuel can cause damage to the fuel pump). * Approved battery charger must be attached and switched on. * The car must not be disturbed during programming (trunk lid, doors, windows, etc.) Ill, GT1/DISplus/SSS preparation « Always ensure that the latest available software of DIS/Progman is loaded on the GT1/DiSplus and the SSS. « GT1/DISplus/SSS must be connected to the workshop network to ensure proper func- tionality and transfer of FASTA data. « GT1/DISplus can be used to remotely control the SSS. Therefore, the latest Progman DVD must be loaded on the GT1/Displus. Date and time must be set correctly in the Software Service Station (SSS) IV. Diagnosis Prior * Carry out a “short test" using DISplus/GT1 Diagnosis to identify and rectify any present complaints; all fault codes must be cleared. General Rules for Programming 14.05.2008 BMW Group SI B090501 - General Rules for Programming Page 3 of 3 * Print out the CKM (Vehicle and Key Memory) settings — this does not apply to E90 vehi- cles and later. * Attach alll printed Reports and Measure Plans to the repair order to document the work performed.
