Aim: to investigate the effects of exercise on heart rate
Theory: heart rate is the speed of the heartbeat measured by the number of contractions of the heart per minute (bpm) Beats Per Minute. The heart rate can vary according to the body physical needs, at rest the normal heart rate is at 60- 100 BPM and after exercise to about 100-170 BPM. This experiment was designed to investigate the heart rate with the use of a stethoscope, firstly the individuals will be placed to rest for about 10-15 minutes then their heart rate will be checked, both individuals will then go through a vigorous exercise which will be a run of three laps, after the exercise their heart rate will be checked every minute until their heart rate returns to the normal rate. This will be repeated one more time and the results will be tabulated. Method The 2 individuals were allowed to rest for 10-15 minutes. The resting heart rate of both individuals were checked and recorded Both individuals, the boy and girl, ran 3 laps around the hard court Right after they have completed their exercise, using a stethoscope their heart rate was checked until it reached their individual resting heart rate Steps 1-4 were repeated and the average was calculated The results collected was recorded and tabulated
The bodys heart rate usually increases due to the body need to absorb more oxygen and to excrete more carbon dioxide than usual.
