Main Idea (Claim) Summative Assessment
Anything that takes up space is matter. The
main idea of this lesson is that student will Project
know that matter can change the phase.(liquid
to solid, solid to liquid, liquid to gas)
Have them hold a small piece of clay in their fists while you count to 60 or count
together with the students. How does the clay fell? How easy is it to roll of pinch?
20 min Put the pieces of clay in a cooler (make it ready before the lesson). Remove the clay
from the cooler and discuss how it has changed. Is it easier or harder to roll?
What will happen if you put the water into the freezer? Do you think it becomes ice or
still become water? What is the change? Liquid changes into solid when we freezed it
and solid change into liquid when we heated it.
(Prepare the ice cube in the freezer if its possible)
What will happen if you heat the water? Its boiling. What can you see? A steam
3 min When you heat water you will see that liquid changes into gas
Some changes are temporary. Clay can become soft and hard and
then soft again as it is heated and cooled. The water can be cooled
again become ice. Ice can melt to become water. The water can be
cooled again become ice.
