thattheywantedtogetgold,diamonds,andalsowantedtoconquerland
whiletakingthelandofnatives.Thedesiretogetgoldwasgreat,some
wouldevencreatetraderoutestofindtheseplaceswheregoldwaspresent.
Mostexplorerswouldalsoconquerthelandthattheydiscoveredandrakedit
forgold,diamonds,anddeliciousfruits.Otherexplorerswouldgoandlook
forspicesthatwereforeignandedible.Thissourceshowstheeconomicpush
andpullfactors.Pullfactorswerethattheywouldhavethenativesscared
awayfromtheirlandorkilledsotheywereabletotakewhattheywanted
fromthelands.Thepushfactorswerethattheexplorersandtheexplorers
nativelandwouldbeabletobecomerichaftergettingtheseresourcesand
theywereabletoestablishnewtraderouteswiththenewlydiscoveredlands.

OneofthereasonsforexplorationwastospreadChristianitytonewplaces.
Explorerswoulddiscovernewlandsandconqueritwhilemaintainingtheir
nativereligion.SomewouldforcethereligionupontheNativepeopletothe
land.SometimesReligionwasquestionedfromtheNatives.Somepush
factorswerethattheywereabletospreadtheirideaofthereligion.Somepull
factorswerethattheywouldforcethereligionandthatcouldcausethe
Nativestothinkitwasabadreligion.Alsomakingareligionbarrierbetween
theNativesandtheExplorers.Thissourceshowsthesefactorsbyshowing
thespreadofreligionandwhatEuropeancountrybelievedwhat.Italso
showshowtheNativeswerediscludedinthereligionbyonlyshowingthe
areasthattheEuropeanstookover.Thesourcealsoshowsthatmanyof
Nativesgotharmedfornotbelievinginwhattheeuropeansbelievedin.

Politicallydiscoveriestothenewislandsestablishedahighersocialrankfor
theexplorersontheirmainland.Alsonewhierarchieswereformedthat
includedtheNatives.Somepushfactorsinthepoliticaldiscoveriesofthe
newworldwasthatthepeoplewhodiscoverednewlandsautomaticallygota
higherspotinthesocialpyramidaswellasexpandingtheirlandtonew
areas.Somepullfactorswerethatsincethenewlandcamewithnewpeople
findingawaytogovernthemwashard.Thissourceshowsthepoliticalpush
andpullfactorsbytakingthepowerawayfromthenativesandgivingitto
thepersonwhodiscoveredtheland.Thisalsoshowsthepushandpullfactors
bygivingthediscoverthelandwhichcouldmakethemrichandcanhave
politicalpoweroverthatland.

Thespanishencomiendasystemwasasystemtoreplacethetributesystem
tocolumbus.Thespanishencomiendasystemensuredslaveryandforced
laborfromnotonlytheNativesbutfromsomecolonistsaswell.Thissystem
alsowasbroughttoSpainandwasthemainsystemformedinHaiti.This
sourceshowsthedrawbacksbyshowingtheslaverytheNativeshadtodo.
TheseNativeswouldgoasfarakillingthemselvesfroallthehardforced
labortheywereputthroughandcouldnottake.Thisalsoshowsthepermits
byrevealingthewaysofhowSpaingotlotsofgoldtogotrich.Someother
permitstotheEncomiendasystemwasthatitensuredtherebelliousnessthe
Nativesbyshowingthemhowharshthepunishmentswereiftheydidnt
followtherules.

Theoverallimpactsofthediseasestotheindigenouspeopleweregreat.
Manyofthesediseaseskilledoffthemajorpopulationofthesepeople.This
sourceshowshowexplorersaswellascolumbusintroducedthenewdiseases
totheseindigenouspeopleandthemnothavingagoodresistancetoitand
didn'thavearesilientwaytofightofftheforeignbacteria.Thisledtotheir
populationdyingout.Thepopulationdecreasedgreatlygoingfromthe
millionstothethousands.Manyoftheotherpeopleweren'tjustdyingfrom
thesediseasesbuttheslaveryaswell.Thesediseaseskilledoffabout90%of
theWholenativeamericanpopulationandslaverymadeitworsebykilling
offthesmallportionleft.Thisiswhatmadethepopulationlowandhowthe
diseasescontributedtothefalloftheNatives.

thediseasemeaslesaswellasconqueringthemandkidnappingthem.After
thekidnappingtheywouldputthemintoslaverywiththeotherNatives.The
Nativesperceivedhimasgoodbeinghisalliesatfirstandshowinghim
wherethegoldwasontheirland.Eventuallytheirviewchangedfrombeing
alliesbecauseofthesewrongdoingsthathedid.Suchaskidnappingand
slavery.TheAztecsstartedtochangetheirperspectiveofhimafterhekilled
andkidnappedmanyofthepeopleaswellaskilltheiremperor.Theystarted
todislikehimafterthisbecauseafterkillingthekingCorteswouldmake
themdoforcedlaborlikealltheotherexplorers.Thissourcealsoshowsthat
cortesandhispeoplewouldkillmanyoftheAztecsfornotgettinghimwhat
hewanted.

diseasesaswellasgettingkilledoffbyslavery.ThenativesperceivedPizarro
asabadpersoninitiallyafterhekidnappedtheiremperorandaskedfora
ransom.Although,intheendheendedupkillinghimanyway.Theirviewof
himneverchangedashemadethingworsebysellingthemintoslavery,
makingthemmineforgold,enforcedforcedlabor,aswellaskillingthemoff
withmanyoftheeuropeandiseases.ItstayedthiswaybecausePizarro
wantedtoconquertheirlandinitiallywithoutshowinganykindof
gentlenesswiththeseindians.

wouldcontainsomanypeoplethattheywouldlayheadtofeetandshoulder
toshoulder.Whensomeonediedtheywouldhavetoleavethemthereuntil
thevoyagewasover.TheMiddlePassagewentinatriangulartraderoute
thattradedthingsbetweenEurope,Africa,andThenewamericas.Whatwas
mostlytradedwereAfricanslaves.Theseslaveswereputonboatsandwere
sailedtoEuropeandwereusedasslavesthereintheircountry.About20%of
theAfricanontheboatdiedonthewaythere.ThisTraderouteplayed
enormouslyintheTransatlanticslavetrade.Thetransatlanticslavetradewas
atraderoutebetweentheatlanticoceanthatformedatriangle.Thismiddle
passageisoneofthemainwaysthatslavescametoeurope.Manyofthese
slavesthatwereintroducedfromtheTransatlanticslavetradewereafrican
slavesthatweabroadtheMiddlePassageships.

ThissourceshowsthatAfricanSlaveryinthenewworldwasveryprevalent.
Africanslaveswereinbigdemandafterfindingoutthattheywereimmune
tomanydiseases.TheNativesweren'taspopularbecausetheEuropeans
discoveredthattheyhasnoimmunitytotheirforeignbacteria.Whichledto
themtodiequickly.Anotherreasonwhyafricanslavesweresodesiredwas
becausetheycoulddomuchhardlabor.AgaintheseNativescouldn'tdo
muchofthehardforcedlaborbecausetheyweren'tusedtotheconditions
makingtheseAfricansbetterforuse.Overalltheworklabortheafricancan
upholdandimmunityofthemanydiseases,Africansmadethemore
desirableslavethantheNativesmakingthemthemostwantedslavesin
Europe.

ThissourceshowsthatthecolumbianExchangewasreferredtothetimewherenew
ideas,disease,food,andtechnologywastradedbetweenthenewworldandtheold
world.Food&cropsthatwereexchangedwereSugarcane,Maize,andpotatoes.New
ideasthatwerespreadwasanAlphabet,Architecture,andthatreligionwasamajor
thing.Somenewtechnologiesthatspreadwereweapons/firearmcapabilitiesand
toolsthatcouldbeusedforfarming.AlotofdiseaseswerespreadintheColumbian
exchangewhichwere,Smallpox,Measles,Malaria,Yellowfever,Influenza,Chicken
pox,Syphilis,Polio,Hepatitis,andEncephalitis.TheColumbianexchangeworkedby
tradingfoodonshipbetweenthenewlandfoundthroughoceantraderoutes.When
sendingtheNativestoEuropeforslaverymanyofthemcontractedthediseasethere
oronthetripthere.Whatalsowastreatedwhilethiswashappeningwastheideaof
weaponryandfirearmsaswellasnewwaystoformbuildings,Architecture.Much
ofthetradehappenedbetweentheOldworld,Europeans,andtheNewworld,
natives.Thiswasverysuccessfulbecauseitproducethelargeblendofcultureand
thediscoveryofmanynewitemsthatarestillusedalottoday.Thisiswhythe
ColumbianExchangewassogreat.
