Quote Explanation iPad Activity

Directions:

1. Use these iPad Applications: Spark Post and Pic Collage

2. From the poem The Raven, pick one or two lines that you feel represents a

deeper meaning, strong emotion, or that sticks out to you.

3. Using Spark Post, use the quote you have chosen and then create your own

image that captures the tone of the quote.

4. Once you have created your image, save it onto your iPad.

5. You will then find three additional images (either you find them through

Google Images or Public Domain Pictures) that either adds to the tone of

your quote, is a picture of Edgar Allan Poe, or represents the poem as a

whole.

6. Once you have your three additional images, you will then create a collage

using Pic Collage, and you will also include the image you created using

Spark Post.

7. When your collage is completed, save it onto your iPad.

8. You will then create an email directed to your teacher, and attach your

collage image to the email.


9. Before sending the email, you must answer these 8 questions. Please copy

the questions onto the body of the email and answer them in completed

sentences.

a. State the reasons in your own words for the quote you have chosen.
b. Interpret in your own words the meaning behind the quote you have
chosen.
c. Apply the meaning of quote you have chosen in other stanzas; does it
still hold the same meaning or does the meaning change?
d. Analyze the stanza from the quote you have chosen, does the quote
you have chosen set the tone or is the tone set from another line in the
stanza or the stanza before? Give examples of the figures of speech or
word relationships being used that create the tone.
e. Compare the stanza you are focusing to another stanza. Do the two
stanzas relate? Do they create a bigger picture of the poem as a
whole? What is Poe trying to say?
f. Argue whether or not the quote you have chosen is the central theme
of the whole poem.
g. What was your reason behind the image you created using Spark
Post? Why the specific font, color, or background?
h. How did the three additional images in your collage add to the quote
you have chosen?
