Essential Understanding What determines the climate of a region?

Objectives- What are you SWBAT determine how weather impacts the climate of a region
teaching? SWBAT determine the similarities and differences between weather and climate
SWBAT determine the characteristics of a particular climate zone
Rationale I am teaching this objective because this fits in to the weather unit we are doing in class.
The students first learned about weather and what determines weather patterns. Now it
is important for students to understand what determines the climate. It is also important
that they know that climate and weather are two different things. I am teaching this
lesson in this way because I want to be able to provide the students with basic
information about what determines climate and then allow them to figure out the
similarities and differences between the 3 main climate zones.
Evaluation Plan- How will Formative:

What background Students need to have an understanding of weather and how weather is determined. I

Students can refer to directions page.
What will you do if a student struggles with the content?

I will pull student into small group and go over the climate information from the
textbook.

What will you do if a student masters the content quickly?

I will allow these students to research a particular area and ask them to determine the

If applicable, how does this lesson connect to/reflect the local community?

I think that this lesson connects to the local community because we can use what we
know about weather and climate to determine what type of area we live in.

How will you differentiate instruction for students who need additional
challenge during this lesson (enrichment)?

I will allow these students to research a particular area and ask them to determine the
climate of this region.
How will you differentiate instruction for students who need additional
language support?

I will provide these students with vocabulary assistance
