What kind of document did you collect?

I collected a printed out editing checklist that students are using to self correct and
peer correct their literary work. The students are working on creating a comic.

What does this document show?

This document shows the various grammar and writing rules that the students will
be held accountable for in this assignment. The checklist includes sections for
capitalization (of proper nouns, at the beginning of sentences, title words, etc.),
punctuation (end marks of sentences, quotation marks for dialogue, commas in
series, and commas with quotation marks), spelling, and other (complete
sentences, repetitious words, unnecessary words, varying sentence structure, run-
on sentences, paragraphs, etc.). The checklist includes columns for both the writer
and one peer to make corrections.

Reflection: What are your thoughts/opinions about this document?

I think this document is a very good way to get students thinking about their writing
and self-correcting their work. It contains grammar rules appropriate for the
students grade level, and it is easy for students to understand. I like that there are
two correction columns, so students are encouraged to check their work once
themselves, and then share with a peer for peer review. I like the idea of this
document, however I wish it was implemented in a better way. Rather than simply
handing out the document and asking students to review it, maybe it should be
made a requirement that students turn in with their assignment and their
brainstorming work.
