Question 4 :

Read the text below:

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to
leave the house-building business to live a more leisurely life with his wife and enjoy his
extended family. He would miss the money he earned, but he wanted to retire. He
believed that they could still get by.

The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build
just one more house as a personal favour. The carpenter said yes, but over time it was
easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and
used low-grade materials. He believed that once he retired, he would have nothing to do
with the house again. It would be someone else's problem! It was an unfortunate way to
end a dedicated career.

When the carpenter finished his work, his employer came to inspect the house.
Then he handed the front-door key to the carpenter and said, This is your house my
gift to you.
The carpenter was shocked! What a shame! If he had only known he was building
his own house, he would have done it all so differently.

Question 5

Read the poem below carefully. Then answer questions (a) - (d).

MR NOBODY
BY ANONYMOUS

I know a funny little man,

As quiet as a mouse,
Who does the mischief that is done
In everybodys house!
Theres no one ever sees his face,
And yet we all agree
That every plate we break was cracked
By Mr. Nobody.

Tis he who always tears out books,

Who leaves the door ajar,
He pulls the buttons from our shirts,
And scatters pins afar;
That squeaking door will always squeak,
For prithee, dont you see,
We leave the oiling to be done
By Mr. Nobody.

He puts damp wood upon the fire,

That kettle cannot boil;
His are the feet that bring in mud,
And all the carpets soil.
The papers are always mislaid,
Who had them last but he?
There's no one tosses them about
But Mr Nobody.

The finger marks upon the door

By none of us are made;
We never leave the blinds unclosed,
To let the curtains fade.
The ink we never spill; the boots
That lying round you see
Are not our boots,they all belong
To Mr. Nobody.
