GRANITE (IGNEOUS ROCK)

Figure 3.0: Jangkar waterfall Figure 3.1: Granite

From our observation, this rock that we got from Jangkar Waterfall, Lundu is granite
because the outside surface of it looks yellowish color with black pigments and a bit
sparkling which is similar to granite. Our results that we got from geotechnical lab, the streak
of this mineral is white and the luster is glassy. Moreover, the hardness of this mineral is the
lowest compare to the other two rocks that we obtained. It is clearly proved when we scratch
it with the other two, it left it streaks on both of the rocks. This mineral has minor crystal
habit since it sparkles a bit when it is put under the light. When we broke the mineral, the
cleavage of this mineral is rough. Next, based on our research from the internet, the yellowish
color is due to the environmental condition which mainly caused by constant humidity that
will create algae and moss. Granite is an igneous rock with light colored. Based on our
findings from the web, under the earth's surface, granite is formed from a slow crystallization
of magma. Furthermore, granite is a rock of mainly composed of feldspar and quartz. Pink,
white, gray or red color with dark mineral grains of granite is usually given by composition
of the minor amount of amphiboles, mica, and other minerals. This rock is meant to be the
best and the most common igneous rock found on earth due to its varieties of uses. For
example, to make floor tile, cemetery monuments, curbing, paving store and counter tops.
