HOTEL WITH DANCE HALL

Bachelor disertation project
Town of Chrastava, Northern Bohemia
Spring semester 2016

Vacant lot in short distance to the main square, facing the river and a
bridge making entrance to the town. Future meeting point for the commu-
nity, but also accomodation for the tourists.

Combination of two main functions - dance hall with restaurant, and hotel
with spa, working in cooperation for better house use during the whole
year. In winter the building is used especially for the balls and dance class-
es, in summer for tourist and company teambuildings.

Two main masses, inspired by traditional archetype in the town, as well

as respecting the urban situations with buildings facing the river. Small
piazetta in the front, making entrance for the visitors, glass facade in the
restaurant, slate tiles covering the building. Foyer as a main element of the
building, circulation of the movement and flexibility of the function con-
nections for different events.

EDGE OF TOMORROW

Proposal of new neighbourhood in Sao Paulo
Winter semester 2016-2017 Skyscrapers
Important stock area in Sao Paulo will soon become a new neighbour-
hood. The proposal focuses on current potentials and proposes new neigh-
bourhood for fifty thousand people.
Platform
We propose to cover the highway and railway by a platform which will
become a new public promenade. People travelling to work can immedi-
ately get off their cars and go to work either by escalators or lifts. The high-
way becomes the most lucrative area in the city situated by the edge of
the centre yet easily accessible from the outside. The platform becomes
the edge of the city. Grid system originating from the contemporary street
system. The grid is disrupted by a park, containing system of stream and
retention ponds, absorbing rainwater. The grid is followed by the platform Buildings
containing skyscrapers and public services. The density and height of the
buildings reflects the value of the land distance from the train station and
public spaces and creates various spaces and atmospheres.

CRUISE HUB
FUA - Faculty of arts and architecture, Liberec
Ji Suchomel design studio
Cruise hub in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Winter semester 2015 - 2015

City of San Juan is highly dependent on cruise ships, bringing tourist directly
to the city centre every day. Current harbour is missing facilities and ca-
pacity too, the task was to design a mixed use building which would be
dignified entrance for the tourists.

Main building is situated to the coast street. Containing shops, concert hall,
restaurants and travel facilities. Travel facilities are set on the second floor,
containing check - in, waiting hall, luggage handling and other functions.

Piers are set on the sea, making the sea shore of the city unaffacted by
overscale ships as much as possible. These piers are containing waiting
areas and services. Connected with the main builing by system of bridges,
making the flow effecient.

Cruise hub not only as a travel point, but becomes a civic facility. Flows - first floor

HIPPODROME
FUA - Faculty of arts and architecture, Liberec
Ji Klokoka design studio
New district in Klatovy, Southern Bohemia
Winter semester 2014 - 2015

Klatovy, town in Southern Bohemia with thirty thousand inhabitants. Aban-

doned barracks in the east part of the city, and new land which should be
built up.

Since the location has problems with population decrease, I focused on

attracting people with new function. During research, I found out that
whole region is missing hippodrome, which was actually a function attract-
ing other typologies - horsemanship, people who want to have a horse
nearby. The hippodrome is making opportunity for creating new neigh-
bourhood, which focuses on horses and sets up new way of development
and future possibilites.

Grid structure, horse connected functions in the east side close to the na-
ture, living and services in the west side. Terraced houses in the middle of
the area, having direct acces to the horse paths.

Attracting horse lovers, horse racers, parents with kids. Sustainable, enviro-
mental friendly, future facing.

PREFAB HOUSE
FUA - Faculty of arts and architecture, Liberec
Jan Hendrych design studio
Reconstruction of prefab housing in luknov, Northern Bohemia
Spring semester 2016

Abandoned prefab apartment buildings in Northern Bohemia. Monofunctional

flats, similar flat proportions and no possibilities for flexibility.

The proposal focuses on possibilities of reshaping and reusing current structures,

to make the current place less dense, but also adding different uses and typol-
ogies. One apartment building is changed to terraced houses with garages
and private gardens, second apartment building is splitted and one works as
a flat house, second one as offices. Third building is added - social building for
seniors.

The focus was also on the space in between buildings - new courtyard is made,
making opportunities for meeting people, having private gardens, making
neighbourhood relationships.

Pavilion proposal for Oya festival in Oslo
Spring semester 2014

We propose a round pavilion which encircles set of trees in southern part

of park. The location is chosen carefully so the pavilion does not block
space in front of the stages. It is also situated strategically that creates a
heart of both the festival area and the park itself.

The structure is lifted above the terrain, so it does not damage current veg-
etation of the park while giving a possibility to experience the park from a
diff erent level. Our object can be optically opened to its surroundings by
using rotary wooden slats but also it can be closed to give the pavilion a
more intimate space, which is dominated by central trees. The pavilion is a
part of the ya Festival but it gives opportunities for experiencing diff erent
atmospheres and feelings all year round. The material solution was chosen
considering the environment; structural parts are made of local pinewood.

Our structure can become an icon of the festival; it respects the philos-
ophy of the ya Festival and by its morphology we try to continue with
symbolism of island festival. The circle is a symbol of infi nity, of an island
and of the world.

Pavilion proposal for Oya festival in Oslo
Spring semester 2014

Architecture creating borders. Limits defining room around human.

As well as the man, architecture was born in the moment, when grew up
from the ground and resisted the earths gravity. It was the moment when
the vertical wall cut the horizontal space and separated the finite room
from infinite nature. From two sticks supporting each other, to triangular
tents, architrave system or beam structures, construction found its most
precise form in the vault - the load-bearing element that is well known
through civilisation and evoke the feeling of architecture in people from
different countries and generations.

We took this element, form it according to human
