1 Site Description

Province of Bataan

In 1754 Bataan was established by Governor General Pedro Manuel Arandia. The province had
more than its share of significant historical events. Bataan has total land area of 137,298 hectares
and its capital is Balanga. Bataan has 11 municipalities namely: Abucay, Bagac, Dinalupihan,
Hermosa, Limay, Mariveles, Morong, Orani, Orion, Pilar, Samal.

Geography

Bataan is the peninsula in the western part of Luzon that shields the Manila Bay on its south and
east from the South Philippine Sea on its west. Zambales and Pampanga form its boundaries on
the north. Two mountains are bounded on the province: Mount Natib on the north and Mount
Samat on the south. A narrow coastline plain characterizes the eastern portion of the province,
while the western coast features many ridges, cliffs and headlands.

Climate

Bataan's climate is classified as tropical. The climate consists of two distinct seasons: dry from
November to April and wet the rest of the year. The rainfall here averages 3021 mm. The average
temperature in Bataan is 26.6 C.

Infrastructures

Power plants

Bataan has a total of 15 Power plants, this consists of: Bataan Nuclear Power Plant is located in
Morong, it has a 600-MW capacity powered plant but now its not functioning. GN Power
Mariveles Coal Plant has two additional units are planned both with 600-MW capacity powered
plant. Dinginin Power Station located in Mariveles, is a 1,336-MW power station under
construction on the Bataan Peninsula. SMC Mariveles Coal Power Plant has a 4x150 MW
capacity and it is under construction. SMC Limay Greenfield Power Plant has a 4x150 MW
capacity. Petron Cogeneration Power Plant located in Limay has a 4x35 MW capacity. Panasia
Bataan Combined Cycle Power Plant located in Limay, is a 620-MW diesel powered plant.
Napocor Bataan Thermal Power Plant located in Limay, it is dismantled. Bataan 2020 Cogen
Power Plant located in Samal, is a 12.5-MW combined generator power plant powered by the
same biomass. YH Green Energy Solar Power Plant located in Hermosa, has a 12.6-MW
capacity. Citicore Solar Power Plant located in Mariveles, has a 18-MW capacity. Morong Solar
Power Plant has a 5-MW capacity, by (SPARC) Solar Powered AgriRural Communities
Corporation. Solana Solar Alpha Inc. located in Hermosa, an awarded solar project as of January
31, 2016 which has a 20-MW capacity. Bataan Solar Power Project an awarded project from
Orani that has 150-MW capacity, by BWST, Inc. Sta. Rita Wind Power Project an awarded wind
project as of March 31, 2016 that has a 50 megawatt capacity in Morong-Hermosa.

Airport

Bataan has an airport, The Subic Bay International Airport that is located in Mabayo, Morong,
Bataan. This airport has 10,000 square meter passenger terminal, 2 Stearns jet ways, 2 terminal
gates and 9000 feet runway. This airport serves in the area of Subic Bay Freeport Zone in
Olongapo and a secondary airport of Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Roads and Expressways

There are three national roads and two expressways in Bataan: The Abad Santos Avenue (Gapan
San Fernando Olongapo Road) has a length of 0.23 km, Bataan National Road has a length of
0.45 km, Governor J.J. Linao National Road has a length of 13.57 km, Bataan Provincial
Expressway has a length of 0.06 km and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway has a length of 2.19
km.

Sea Ports

Bataan is surrounded of water, their particular job is fishing, so there are three ports located in
the province, this are: The port of Lucanin that is located in Mariveles, a dry cargo and a bulk
terminal for small bancas and cargo ship, The port of Lamao located in Limay is a port for the
fishing, cargo ships, and ferry ships, The port of Capinpin located in Orion a port for ferry ships.

Electric and Water Supply

Power supply is being handled by the National Power Corporation which is generated by Alstom
Power, a 600 MW-capacity plant. The electricity is distributed locally by Peninsula Electric
Cooperative (PENELCO) through National Transmission Corporation. Bataan is 100%
energized. All municipalities in Bataan have their respective water supply system. The operation
and maintenance of water supply facilities are under the responsibility and supervision of Local
Water Districts, Barangay Water Supply Association (BWSA), Rural Water Supply Association
(RWSA), and Barangay Councils.
