Ugadi (28th March 2017, Tuesday)

Ugadi is the New Year's Day for the general population of the Telugu,and Kannada people
group in India. The legend behind this celebration is that Lord Brahma made the universe
on Ugadi. In Maharashtra it is known as Gudipadawa and might be called Gudi Padava
in different parts of India.
According to www.mpanchang.com The name Yugadi or Ugadi is gotten from the Sanskrit
words yuga (age) and adi (beginning) - "the start of another age". The date of Ugadi
depends on figurings of the position of the Moon going back to twelfth century.
SIGNIFICANCE:
Ugadi starts on the main New Moon after the Spring Equinox. Ugadi is praised the
following morning as an Indian day begins from dawn. It is an open occasion in the
accompanying districts: Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu,
Telangana, Uttar Pradesh. The nine day long spring celebration of Vasanta Navratri
(Chaitra Navratri) starts on this day and finishes up on Ram Navami. It is trusted that the
maker of the Hindu pantheon Lord Brahma began creation on this day - "Chaitra Suddha
Padhyami" or the Ugadi day. The famous international Indian Mathematician
Bhaskaracharya's galactic estimations in the twelfth century decided the date of Ugadi
from the dawn on as the start of the New Year, new month and new day. This date for
the most part, falls in late walk or early April in the western date-book and this date

celebration.
