Kill and Choke Manifold D-SR-021
Rev. 1, December 1994

1 FOREWORD

This standard has been developed by the NORSOK Standardisation Work Group.

2 SCOPE

This standard defines the requirements for design of kill and choke manifold systems.

5 FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
5.1 General

The system shall assist in the control of an inbalance in a well.

5.2 Products and services

5.3 Equipment/Schematic

Note:
Permanent lines are shown. If flexible/temporary lines are used double valves are required on the
outlets.

The system shall comprise of the following main items:

Kill & Choke manifold w/2 remote and 1 manual choke
Atmospheric separator
Control system

5.4 Performance

Kill & Choke manifold working pressure rating: Range I 345 bar, Range II 690 bar

Atmospheric separatorpressure rating Hydrostatic pressure of 1.23

s.g. mud to top of ventline.
max. gas 7500 Sm3/h
ventline/liquid outlet dia 10"/10"
liquid seal min. 3.5 m
inlet line 4"

5.5 Regularity

5.6 Process/Ambient conditions

North Sea environmental conditions shall apply.

The system shall be designed for sour service (i.e. H2S/CO2) and all types of mud.

5.7 Operational Requirements

The kill & choke manifold shall be operable from both the kill & choke manifold locally and the
drillers cabin.

Operation of the remote control chokes shall at least indicate the drillstring pressure,
the choke manifold pressure, volume pumped, as well as the drillstring fluid pump
rate.
In the case of manually operation, the drillstring pressure and the choke manifold
pressure shall be displayed.
Lines/hoses between the blowout preventer stack and the choke manifold shall,
together with their connections and valves on the high pressure side of the choke
manifold, have at least the same working pressure as the blowout preventer stack.
The system shall be designed for frequent testing and inspection. Testing and
inspection shall not cause abnormal wear.
The kill and Choke Manifold shall be designed so as to allow formation fluid to be
conducted to the choke manifold by way of two independent piping system.
