To Whom It May Concern,

I am interested in applying for an elementary and middle level teaching position in your school
district. I am confident that my skills are well-aligned with the role, and that I would be an
excellent fit for your school.

My studies at New Jersey City University in mathematics and elementary education, as well as
previous permanent substituting positions and my past student internship, have allowed me to
hone my skills in the field. I have experience teaching fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth grade,
along with juniors and seniors in high school. I have gained knowledge of accommodating
different styles of teaching and incorporating effective methods to meet students needs.

In my most recent position as an elementary and middle school educator, I taught seventh grade
mathematics. I provided effective classroom management, creative lesson plans, and highly
praised instructional delivery. I submitted progress reports and report cards, and engaged in
parent teacher conferences.

I encourage student learning by active group work, creative learning centers, interactive hands on
activities, various forms of technology, and engaging visual aids. I have noticed that these
different types of teaching strategies improve students understanding and stimulate their brains.

I believe that my experience and educational record make me an excellent candidate for this
opportunity. I have provided you with my resume for your consideration. Please feel free to
contact me by phone or e-mail at your earliest convenience to discuss my background, as well as
the requirements for the position.

Sincerely,

Basant Tawfik

Teaching Philosophy

As an educator, I would like to be an effective teacher. I was always touched and

interested in certain school subjects because my teachers were effective enough to make me feel
something. I want to be a teacher who will help her students strive for the best and exceed the
standards. I believe that if I need to be an effective teacher I must love to teach, demonstrate a
caring attitude, relate to my students, think outside the box, try my best to communicate
information, know my material, and encourage and challenge my students.
If I do not enjoy teaching, why should it be my profession? I have loved dealing with
children since the summer of my eighth grade year. Very few of my teachers enjoyed their job
and I knew that because so many were ready to leave by the end of the day and were not excited
to come back the next day. I love teaching! If I do not love teaching, then I will not strive to do
the best I can at teaching. I need to be able to express to my students that I love my job because
my positive attitude does effect the class If the students do not see that I love what I do, how can
I convince them to love what they are learning?
If I do not care about my students, why would they care about me or what I have to say? I
need to care for my students if I want them to succeed in life. Many students have a very rough
life at home and they need someone to tell them that they can do many things and they will be
amazing in many things only if they strive to do those things. Students need to see that I care so
that they can care also. I need them to do their best and to believe in themselves. If I do not
believe in them, then how can they?
If I do not try to relate to my students, how can I ever expect them to learn? I must get to
my students level sometimes to understand how they are thinking and what they are going
through. I need to make them realize that most of the things learned in school will be used in
their daily lives. I need to know what my students love and enjoy so that I can teach them using
what they enjoy doing. How can I expect them to enjoy the school material if I cannot explain
how it is related to their lives?
If I cannot think outside of the box, how can I expect my students to do the same?
Nowadays, you want to leave a mark on people so that they can remember you, especially for a
job position. Creativity is needed so much more now in todays world. I need to be able to do
creative things within the classroom to model to my students that creativity is great. I need to be
able to think outside the box in school to help them grasp the information better. I would want
my students to remember and gain as much knowledge as they can, why not do it in a way where
they will remember and learn from the material?
If I do not try to communicate my information in an understandable manner, how can I
expect my students to do the same? Students need many things to be modeled for them so that
they can grasp it themselves. I would love to teach my students how to communicate in a manner
that will allow others to understand them. Also, I would love to make sure that I am always
trying to communicate the information in the best way I can so that my students can understand
what is needed of them and what they should be learning. How can I expect my students to
succeed if I cannot communicate my information correctly?
If I do not know my material, how can I expect my students to fully understand the
material? I need to know what I am teaching to be able to teach it to my students. I need to be
confident in what I teach so that my students can trust that I will give them the right answers. If
my students see that I do not know my material, how can they ever trust that I am giving them
the correct information?
If I do not encourage and challenge my students, how will they ever understand that they
can do anything they set their minds to? I need to believe in my students. I need to encourage
them, especially when they think they cannot do it. I need to challenge them to help them grow. I
need to be able to help them see that they can do anything and to always strive for the best. They
need to believe that no one is better than them because they can do anything they set their minds
to. If I show them that they are failures, why wouldnt they believe me?
In conclusion, I will strive to be an effective teacher. I want to be able to help my
students grow and to continue growing for the rest of their lives. My students do not have to
remember who I am, but as long as they remember how to use the tools that I will teach them
then I know that I have succeeded. I believe that if I need to be an effective teacher I must love to
teach, demonstrate a caring attitude, relate to my students, think outside the box, try my best to
communicate information, know my material, and encourage and challenge my students. If I do
not plan on effecting my students in a positive manner, how can I call myself a teacher?

To Whom It May Concern,

Basant Tawfik is our Current Permanent mathematics substitute here at Henry E. Harris

Community School. Ms. Tawfik was asked to step into a most difficult situation and within a matter

of one month has changed the culture and confidence of the students learning abilities through her

passion for mathematics and seeing students succeed. Ms. Tawfik is a dedicated professional that

places her students needs above all else, while providing them with every resource available to help

her students attain higher levels of success within the content area. In the short time I have observed

the impact that Ms. Tawfik has on her students and how she provided support to help each student

cultivate their skills to gain confidence within her educational environment.

Mrs. Tawfik leads by example all while displaying her passion for math and showing the

students that their ability to problem solve will help them throughout the course of their life. Students

have grown to appreciate her teaching technique and understand that they are given Ms. Tawfiks

full attention when it comes to their educational growth. Ms. Tawfik will be a great addition to your

mathematics department, due to not only her abilities and understandings of the content, but the

passion that drive her students to succeed.

Sincerely,

Brian Belton

Re: Recommendation Letter for Basant Tawfik
It is a pleasure for me to write this recommendation letter for Basant
Tawfik, an excellent prospective mathematics teacher from my EDU 481
Clinical Practice (Supervision Fall 2016) at the New Jersey City
University. I observed Basant five times while she was teaching 5th grade
mathematics class in LCCS. Basant received very good supervision
evaluations from me in all five observations. I can provide so many great
examples regarding this matter; I am proud of her performance during her
clinical practice.
Basant had already assumed teaching responsibilities and she was involved
with students and class activities from the beginning of Fall 2016 term.
Basant was always very well-planned for the class. Her lesson plans were
very impressive. I also observed that she was collaborating with her
cooperating teacher in a very productive and professional manner.
Basant always taught the topics in a very clear and understandable manner
by constantly emphasizing the key terminology and using excellent teaching
skills. I observed that she had a very legible and clear presentation on
the board and she was very clear and explicit in her explanations. I was
particularly impressed by the fact that every time students finished
solving a certain problem, Basant went over the problem multiple times,
explained it again and again to make sure that everybody understands it.
On the personal level, I found her very friendly, likeable, thoughtful,
and caring. I am sure she will set a great model not only for her
colleagues, but for her students as well. I am proud of Basant for being
such a committed and dedicated teacher who is willing to help her students
in every way that she can. In short, I think very highly of Basant and
recommend her without reservations for employment or any other endeavors
she chooses to pursue. Please let me know if you have any further
questions about Basant Tawfik.
Sincerely yours,
