Keep the user manual in a readily accessible place for the user. The manual is
part of the equipment. In the event of a change of ownership it must be given to
the new owners of the equipment.
This user manual is the first of a pair. A second manual is provided for systems fitted
with a climate computer.
You only need this manual if you have a Lumitherm system fitted with
thermostat control.
If you have a Lumitherm system fitted with a climate computer, the equipment
will be supplied with the following additional manual:
1
RDB Lumitherm system fitted with a thermostat or a climate control computer: In the rest of

Important Before you install or put into service the equipment, you must
carefully read this Installation and User Manual LUMITHERM II and, where
applicable, also the Climate computer for Lumitherm II manual.
Persons under 16 years of age must not use this equipment. You must not use
this equipment if you have not read and understood the instructions in this
manual.
The user is responsible for the personal safety of exposed persons working
within the operating area of the system.
Unauthorised persons may only enter the operating area under supervision
and must be made aware of any residual risks. (Unauthorised persons are
defined as anyone under 16 years of age, visitors, members of the general
public and exposed persons working in the vicinity).
To ensure that you work safely with Lumitherm II, please read this manual
thoroughly.
Keep the manuals in a easily accessible place at all times throughout the
equipment life cycle.
Symbol Description
Danger! Electrocution hazard.
Hazard warning.
Before you start any work in the operating area, switch off and lock out the
main ON-OFF switch. (Use a padlock).
Incorrect installation, failure to use original spare parts and failure to follow the
instructions in this manual can cause equipment damage and personal
injury.
Before you enter the operating area of the equipment,, switch off and lock
out the main ON-OFF switches .
Overloading of the fans causes overheating of the fan motors and will trip the
overload switches. This will shut down the fans. The motors will start again
automatically once they have cooled down. Before you start
troubleshooting or maintenance in the equipment operating area, switch
off and lock out the main ON-OFF switch.
Caution! Fans can start automatically! Make sure that the guards are
always secured with locking devices (e.g. padlock), which can only be
removed using tools!
The user must ensure at all times that electrical components are ALWAYS
connected in accordance with the locally applicable standards. Only suitably
trained and authorised personnel are permitted to connect up electrical
equipment.
Follow the installation instructions described in this manual for the Lumitherm
system.
The Lumitherm II system consists of a frame holding a poly bag curtain mounted on
the side wall of a barn. Fans are connected to the poly bag.
The fans are controlled by a thermostat or a climate control computer. The fans can
also be operated manually using the pushbuttons on the controller. Control can be
either fully automatic (climate computer or thermostat) or manual (climate computer
or ON-OFF switch).
The poly bag is divided into a number of pipes which, when not inflated, lie folded up
in the frame. When the poly bag is inflated, these pipes unfold to form a completely
closed insulating wall, which lets through the light. The system is inflated by one or
more fans. When the fan is switched off, the poly bag collapses and automatically
folds up thereby opening the ventilation gap again. To allow the poly bag to collapse
more quickly, a PVC tube is fitted in the second pipe from the top.
Part and serial numbers: The part and serial numbers are on on the rating plate
attached to the equipment.
Further specifications relating to the control unit are given in the manual Climate
computer for Lumitherm II supplied with the control unit.
Important!
Comply with all locally applicable health and safety regulations governing
lifting/installation.
Important! The user must ensure that the ventilation system is installed in
accordance with the instructions and in compliance with the applicable
electrical standards.
5.2.2 Tools
You will need the following tools to install the Lumitherm II system (Figure 5.1). Tools
needed to connect the climate computer or thermostats are not included here.
This work must always be performed by a qualified electrician and in accordance with
the locally applicable standards.
Important! You must add an extra 5 cm length at the edge of the fan. The system
must not project beyond the barn (i.e. system must not be longer than the barn)!
Fit the bird mesh to the horizontal beam. Start at the top and draw the mesh
down.
Important! Make sure that the bird mesh is fitted flush with the top beam.
Staple the mesh securely on the top, bottom and side edges. The bird mesh
must cover the whole frame.
Make sure that the end of the mesh finishes under the bottom edge of the
gutter. This will ensure that there are no sharp edges which might puncture the
poly bag causing it to leak (Figure 5.4).
Caution! Remove any sharp or pointed parts which might damage the poly bag.
Caution Check all guttering for sharp edges. These can cause injury to persons
and damage to the system. Any burrs3should be removed after shortening.
2
Important Top guttering is supplied in standard lengths which need to be cut to size.

5.5.3 Install bottom gutter
Install the bottom gutter(C), starting from the fan side (Figure 5.9).
Position the bottom gutter on the wind rattle stopper bracket and mark where
the hole is to be drilled in this gutter. This hole is already predrilled in the wind
rattle stopper bracket (ZK) (Figure 5.9).
Drill a 7mm hole in the bottom gutter. This hole is used to attach the bottom
gutter with a round head screw (J) and a flanged nut (A) (Figure 5.6).
Caution The bird mesh must extend below the bottom gutter.4 (Figure 5.10).

Note: The outer wind rattle stopper in Figure 5.10 does not correspond to actual installation.
Fit the mounting rail (W) to the middle external wind rattle stopper (Figure
5.13).
Attach the top of the profile 16 cm above the middle of the wind rattle stopper
using 2 bolts (L) and 2 lock nuts (I) (Figure 5.13).

Now install the end cover kit (Z). First drill into the sheet metal and the cover.
Attach the end cover (Z) to the external wind rattle stoppers (F) with self-

Caution When restarting the equipment after a power failure or when starting
the machine for the first time, keep all other persons away for the operating
area of the equipment and away from the fans.
Before you put the machine into service, read the manuals, in particular the
manual Climate computer for Lumitherm II (where supplied).
Warning The equipment must not be put into service if it is not fitted with a
main ON-OFF switch between the power supply and the thermostats. The
equipment must not be put into service if any guards are missing or faulty.
Important
Make sure that the fans are connected to the correct thermostat contacts (see
also wiring diagram, Appendix B).
The thermostats must only be connected up by an authorised installer.
Caution Make sure that the top segments are inflated before the lower ones.
6
Dual control: Also known as two-way switching.
7
Heat side: The thermostat functions as a two-way switch. If it is too cold, heating is required = heat
side. The fans inflate the Lumitherm curtain. The curtain then acts as an insulating wall to ensure it
becomes warm.
Caution:
Maintenance that includes part changes or electrical troubleshooting must always be
performed by a maintenance specialist authorised by the dealer or manufacturer.
Before you start ANY maintenance on the fans, switch off and lock out the
main motor ON-OFF switch.
Perform the maintenance work as described in the manual to ensure a long
service life of the machine.
During maintenance and repair work, wear appropriate personal protective
equipment (PPE) at all times.
Before you start any maintenance on electrical components (control box,
switches, sensors), check that the ENTIRE system is powered down.
Caution:
During maintenance or cleaning it may be necessary to fully inflate the ventilation
curtain. (This may be necessary to install a condensate pot or to clean the poly bag).
To fully inflate the ventilation curtain during maintenance or cleaning, proceed as
follows:
Set the thermostats to high (40C) so that the fan s rotate continuously.
Take precautions to ensure that the guards are not removed from the fans.
Daily
Operating area Check for possible blockage of the ventilation
system and remove any obstructions.
Operation of the equipment If not operating properly, trace and remove the
cause and restart the equipment.
Weekly
Poly bag Check for damage/sharp edges in construction.
If leaking, reseal.
Disassembly must be performed by specially trained persons. You must ensure that:
