Aim : To investigate the effect of temperature on rate of reaction

Problem Statement : How does temperatre affect the rate of reaction

Hypothesis :

Variable : Manipulated :..
Responding :..
Constant :..
Apparatus : 150cm3 conical flask, stopwatch, 50cm3 measuring cylinder, 10cm3
measuring cylinder, thermometer, Bunsen burner, tripod, wire gauze.
Materials : 0.2 moldm-3 sodium thiosulphate,Na2S2O3 solution, 1.0 moldm-3
sulphuric acid, a piece of paper marked x at the centre
Procedure : 1. Measure 50cm3 0.2 moldm-3 sodium thiosulphate and pour into
conical flask.
2. The conical flask placed on top of paper marked x at the centre.
3. Measure 5 cm3 of sulphuric acid using measuring cylinder
4. Pour sulphuric acid into the conical flask and immediately start the
stopwatch.
5. Swirl the mixture in the conical flask.
6. Stop the stopwatch when the x mark can no longer be seen.
7. Repeat step 1 -6 using sodium thiosulphate heated at 40C, 50C,
60C and 70C before adding sulphuric acid. Other conditions remain
the same.
Result

Experiment Temperature/C Time taken/s 1/time/s-1

Plot a graph of temperature against 1/time

Discussion : State the relationship between the temperature of sodium
thiosulphate and the value of 1/time

State the relationship between the value of 1/time and the rate of
reaction

..
State the relationship between the temperature of sodiium
thiosulphate and rate of reaction

Sketch a graph of temperature os sodium thiosulphate agaisnt the
time taken.

Write the ionic equation for the reaction between sulphuric acid and
sodium thiosulphate

It is better to use small conical flask or bigger ones? Why?

Conclusion :..
Graph of temperature agaisnt 1/time
