Linguistic Response to the Text

Kegiatan Belajar 1
Introduction

In this learning learning activity, you will learn how to reorganize the
information by reordering events which are embedded in a text. Text sometimes a
sequence of events which are important to be understand. Therefore, it so
important to refer constantly to the texts to find out when exactly the various
events took place.

You can rearrange paragraphs by identifying discourse makers such as a result

of this, finally, then, next and outhers. You can also do that by identifying the main
ideas of each paragraph. By knowing them, you will know which paragraph comes
first and which comes next.

The following paragraph are jumbled up.can you put them in their
chronological order so that they make sense ?

Climate

As a result of this, vegetation has also been changing. In Canada the

agricultural cropline has shifted 50 to 100 miles northward. In the some way cool-
climate trees like birches and spruce have been dying over large areas of Eastern
Canada. In Sweden the treeline has moved up the mountaints by as much as 65
feet since 1930.

For the last hundred years the climate has been growing much warmer. This
has had a number of different effects. Since the beginning of the 20th
century, glaciers have been melting very rapidly. For example, the muir Glacier
Alaska has retreated 2 miles in 10 years. Secondly, rising temperatures have been
causing the snowline to retreat on mountains all over the world. In Peru, for
example, it has risen as much as 2700 feet in 60 years.

Finally, the sea has been rising at a rapidly increasing rate, largely due, as was
mentioned above, to the melting of glaciers. In the last 18 years it has risen by
about in 6 inches, which is about four times the average rate of rise over the last
9000 years.

The distribution of wildlife has also been affected, many eroupean animals
moving northwards into Scandinavia. Since 1918, 25 news species of birds have
been-seen in Greenland, an in the united states birds have move their nests to the
north.

Reorganizing the Information: Using Tables

In yhisunit you will learn how to understand the main information contained in
the texts by filling in tables.

Texts are full of information. So, it is important to derive the main information
from the supporting one.all you have to do is to read the text through first in order
to get general ideas and then look for specific points in different places. The table
are only to make you easier to reorganize the text.
