Japanjuxtaposition
Japanjuxtaposition
Japan is a country with positive attributes and negative attributes. All of these
influence the people living there and the culture of Japan. In class, were drawing
pictures of Japan, but these pictures are juxtaposed. In my drawing, one half of the
picture includes positive attributes, and the other negative. Let me tell you about
them.
1. I drew pollution, a major problem in Japan. To show this the water, sky,
and grass is grey or yellow. Also, the cherry tree does not have any leave,
and its slightly dead looking.
2. I also drew a cityscape on the lakeshore to represent over population.
This is because Japan is so small, there is not enough room for all of its
inhabitants.
3. And of course, I drew Mt. Fuji erupting. Even though there are benefits
to living near a volcano, it is still dangerous. It causes earthquakes, which can
lead to tsunamis(which I also drew).
Why did I include these things in my drawing? Well, I think the cherry tree is a
good way to symbolize the advantages and disadvantages of Japan. On the one
side, the tree is beautiful, just like Japan. On the other, it is dead and polluted, all
because of Japan's negative attributes. I also shaded the landscape and sky with
yellow and grey on the negative side, whereas the are brighter colors on the
positive side. I think this sets the mood as opposites. Half beautiful and serene, half
dismal and chaotic. Most of all, my drawing was meant to convey the message that
Japan has both negative and positive attributes. As beautiful as Japan is there is a
downside.
