To whom it may concern,

Hello. We are Savannah Moe and Bethanee Tovar and we are ninth graders in
the Austin Global Studies program at Austin High. We have been assigned a project that
requires us to redesign the packaging of a product to make it more efficient. We choose
Jell-O mix because it had a pretty good amount of air space and because it had bag
inside the box that contains the mix.

We submerged the prepackaged bag of Jell-O mix into water and the amount of
overflowed water was the volume of the product. We found that the volume of the
product was 284 cm3. We then measured to dimensions of the box and found that the
volume of the box was 320.144 cm3. With this information we decided that we would
change the overall design from a rectangular prism to cylinder. This cylinder has a
diameter of 5 cm and a height of 14.8 cm making the volume 290.54 cm 3.
This can really do a lot for the cost of packaging. For starters it cuts about 108
2
cm on the total material used in production. There is also only three shapes, two of
which are different, so there may be a simplification within the production process. One
thing that we would like to note is that you would also have to either redesign the bag or
not include the bag at all.
Sincerely,

Savannah Moe Bethanee Tovar
