RE: Site Supervisor Letter of Evaluation

Eva Long completed 210 hours of work in the Office of Residence Life at Pacific
University as the 2016 ACUHO-I Summer Intern.

Eva interned at Pacific for seven weeks, but even in such a short internship, she
made the time to get to know Pacifics student issues and Pacific as an institution.
Eva capitalized on opportunities to connect with professionals from various
departments at Pacific, participated in professional development opportunities, and
she immersed herself in work of the department.

Because of her work ethic and her openness to learn from a different institution, she
was able to knowledgeably adapt her work from Seattle University to fit the specific
environment and culture at Pacific. Because of her short time here and entry-level
position, Eva had to lead and direct professionals ranked higher and with far more
tenure than her in order to complete some projects; this led to Eva practicing how to
lead with influence instead of leading with supervision/authority. Eva successfully
led the department through training session development meetings, thus gaining
feedback and garnering buy-in from the professional staff.

Eva quickly connected with our Resident Assistants (RAs) during RA Training and
the RAs perceived her as an integral member of the department. During the two
weeks of RA Training, Eva took on added the task of sitting through training
sessions to learning from the RAs perspective, thus broadening her understanding
of a very large part of Student Affairs on most campuses.

Though not a comprehensive list, Eva completed the following projects:

Led the redevelopment of the Social Justice Retreat for RA Training

Led RA Training Sessions in Group Facilitation, StrengthsQuest, and Social
Justice
Researched and compiled a report on best practices for recruiting and hiring
diverse student staff
Led the check-in process for our student staff, utilizing our Housing software
and key system

Eva has a passion for Social Justice and Diversity training and advocacy and was
often described as knowledgeable, positive, and hardworking here at Pacific. On
several occasions she described looking forward to furthering her education and
contributing to the research of Social Justice and Diversity via a doctoral degree.
Thus, I can only conclude that given the opportunity, Eva will continue to both grow
the profession and to grow as a professional. Eva would do well to continue to
discover and know herself, to build a strong network of professionals she turns to,
and to continue learning how to lead with influence.

Best,

Karolyn Ismay
