Internet, to produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others.

Brief Description of Learning Experience: After studying utopian literature, students will create their
own utopian society through a descriptive narrative of their ideal world that will be published on the class
blog. The students will research the logistics of their personal utopian society after brainstorming ideas on a
graphic organizer. Then the students will begin to plan their writing project, and over the next few class
periods they will write their narrative about their utopian society. The students will be asked to include a
graphic that they create, an audio file, or multimedia that would add substance to their writing. When the
final narrative is complete they will publish it on the class blog for their parents and classmates to read.
Through the blogging process the students will become familiar with how to use blogs, comment on others
ideas, and how to properly cite a resource they have discovered. Once everyones blog post is published,
the students will visit one anothers blogs and provide constructive and supportive feedback, and reflect on
their own work after viewing comments.

Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating

Student Engagement/Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): This project reaches a LoTi level of
4 and 5 because students are applying learning to the real world, and their learning about blogs is authentic
and relevant. When their writing is published on the blog it becomes a level 5 because there is a two-way
collaboration with community.

Importance of technology: This project could be completed without the use of a blog or website creation
tool, but using the blog really brings this project to life and lets the students learn how blogs are used and
how their writing can be published onto a public media. It makes the project more relevant and useful.

Inspiration (optional): Edutopia.com

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: I would only include students first names for their published
narratives, and I would not include any personal pictures or information on the blog. Their writing would be
publicly available through their parents consent but their last names would not be attached to ensure
student safety.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. I want students to learn real world technology and
how to write a piece for public display.
